Dunwoody made it a clean sweep of the Week 5 DeKalb County cross country meet on Tuesday at the Druid Hills Middle School course taking both the girls’ and boys’ team titles.
The sweep by Dunwoody was the second consecutive by the school at the Druid Hills course having won both races during Week 3 competition.
It was the third consecutive win by the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats at Druid Hills as they put five runners in the Top 10 to cruise to a 24-74 win over second place Lakeside. Stephenson (99) was third followed by M.L. King (100), Tucker (115), Southwest DeKalb (117) and Clarkston (181).
Dunwoody freshman Brooke Linard made it three in a row at the Druid Hills course running a season’s best time on the course of 21:54.50. Fellow freshman Tamar Amrani (24:50.30) and Sarah Jane Shipley (24:50.50) were sixth and eighth, respectively, while seniors Abby Reams (24:50.50) and Chloe Warren (24:50.90) crossed in seventh and tenth, respectively to round out the first five Dunwoody runners.
Second place Lakeside did not have a runner in the Top 10 while putting five in Top 20 led by Parker White (25:24.50) in 14th place. Four more Lady Vikings took four of the last Top 20 spots in the race.
Druid Hills claimed two Top 5 finishes by Indie Shuler (21:59.20) in second and Nadirah Gilliam (24:21.60) taking fourth.
Martin Luther King’s India Thorpe (23:42.40) grabbed third place overall and Tucker’s Nuhamin E’Tegenu (24:42.00) was fifth. Third place Stephenson was spurred to the third place team finish by Junior Tatyana Baptiste (24:50.80) in ninth as the last five Top 10 finishers were within six hundredths of a second of each other.
BOYS VARSITY
The Dunwoody Wildcats made it two wins in a row at the Druid Hills Middle School course running to a 58-84 win over the Druid Hills Red Devils to complete the sweep for Dunwoody.
Tucker (84) was third with the tiebreaker and was followed in order by Martin Luther King (127), Southwest DeKalb (128), Lakeside (130), Stephenson (143), Towers (226), Arabia Mountain (241) and Cross Keys (305).
A pair of junior Wildcats, Alex Loffredio (18:45.90) and Brodie Munn (19:01.80), were Top 10 finishers to lead the way. Loffredio was fifth overall and Munn was eighth.
Druid Hills senior Jack Fishbein (18:48.60) led the Red Devils to the runners-up finish finishing seventh overall.
Tucker’s Abdeleselam Kerebo topped his own best time this season at Druid Hills with a 17:22.50 to win his second individual title on the season. Towers’ Innocent Bembetem (18:05.50) came across in second and Clarkston’s Caleb Koerber (18:13.90) took third and had teammate Amani Diedonne (19:12.50) join him in the Top 10 at ninth overall.
Martin Luther King’s Braylin Grier who won the Week 3 meet title finished fourth overall in 18:36.60 and was joined in the Top 10 by teammate C’Andre Reid (19:13.20) in tenth.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The Lakeside Lady Vikings and Redan Raiders took the crowns in the girls’ and boys’ junior varsity races to finish the day at the Druid Hills Middle School course.
The Lady Vikings picked up second, third and fifth place finishes to solidify their team win 32-46 over Southwest DeKalb. Dunwoody (72) followed in third, Tucker (92) in fourth and Clarkston (112) in fifth.
Eighth graders Ryan Lynch (15:22.50) and Vivian Vonwalsung (16:02.70) crossed in second and third, respectively, behind Tucker eighth grader Anna Hodder who won for the third time this season with a season’s best 15:05.00.
Lakeside’s Amelia Bell joined her teammates in the Top five with a fifth place finish in 17:03.10.
Southwest DeKalb’s second place finish was fueled by Deja Sims (16:54.70) in fourth, Janiyah Burke (17:30.60) was seventh and Dina Ault (18:03.00) in ninth.
Arabia Mountain picked up a sixth place finish as Naomi-Sole Rufus (17:18.50) took sixth overall.
Redan’s Shaun Thornton set a season’s best junior varsity boys’ time of 12:42.80 to lead the Raiders to a 32-37 win over Dunwoody in the boys’ competition.
Towers (87) was third followed by Martin Luther King Jr. (96) and Lakeside (117).
The Raiders finished with four runners in the Top 10 as Micah Thompkins (12:48.10, third), Amari Guess (14:05.80, eighth) and Patrick Yidin (14:05.80, ninth).
Dunwoody’s Xavier Pasquier (12:47.50) was second to lead a group of three Dunwoody runners in the Top 10 including Ashton Fordam (13:40.20, sixth) and Ben Newsome (14:12.40, 10th).
Columbia’s Zion Smith (13:34.70) was fourth and Towers’ Messiah Fowler (13:38.50) was fifth. Martin Luther King’s Oliver Paull (14:02.80) was sixth to round out the Top 10.
