The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats and Wildcats swept the varsity cross country races at the third DeKalb County regular season meet on Tuesday at the Druid Hills Middle School course.

The Lady Wildcats outlast the Lakeside Lady Vikings 25-40 to capture the girls’ title. Martin Luther King Jr. (94) was third followed by Southwest DeKalb (94) and Tucker 112.

Freshman Brooke Linard was first in 22:45.30 followed by freshman teammate Sarah Jane Shipley (22:45.40) and senior Abby Reams as Dunwoody swept the top three places. Dunwoody senior Chloe Warren (24:10.50) finished eighth and senior Hannah Litvak (26:12.70) was 15th to clinch the title for the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Vikings had two runners in the Top 10 in sophomore Parker White (23:36.10) in fourth and freshman Poppy Deets-McHugh (24:17.30) in ninth.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s third place finish was led by India Thorpe (24:08.20) who finished seventh overall. Druid Hills which did not have enough qualifiers for the team title put two runners in the Top 10 in sophomore Nadirah Gilliam (23:45.10) in fifth and junior Indie Shuler (24:20.10) in 10th.

BOYS VARSITY
Three Dunwoody Wildcats finished in the top 10 to lead their team to a 52-104 win over Druid Hills in the boys’ varsity race.

The field of 135 timed runners had 12 teams qualify five runners in team competition with Tucker (115) in third followed in order by M.L. King (122), Southwest DeKalb (123), Lakeside (129), Clarkston (167), Redan (204), Towers (266), Stephenson (281), Arabia Mountain (285) and Cross Keys (291).

Martin Luther King Jr. senior Braylin Grier (17:58.50) led from start to finish winning by 27 seconds over Tucker’s Abdeleselam Kerebo (18:35.70) to win the medalist title.

Dunwoody junior Alex Loffredio (19:07.60) led the Wildcats with a third place finish as one of the three Dunwoody runners in the Top 10. Senior Oliver Abbott (19:24.90) was sixth and junior Kevin Westrick (20:09.10) took 10th.

Clarkston’s Caleb Koerber (19:16.70) was fourth and King senior C’Andre Reid (19:22.60) helped fuel the Lions’ fourth place finish as he came in fifth overall.

Druid Hills’ second place finish was keyed by junior Finnan LeBlanc (19:32.00) in seventh and senior Jack Fishbein (19:40.00) in eighth.

Southwest DeKalb sophomore Terrence Swift (20:04.30) gave the Panthers a Top 10 finisher as he crossed in ninth.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Lakeside swept the junior varsity races at Druid Hills Middle while Tucker took the individual titles to complete the day.

The Lady Vikings put five runners in the Top 10 to outscore Southwest DeKalb 17-44 for the girls’ team title. Columbia finished third with 81 points and no other teams qualified enough runners.

Tucker eighth grader Anna Hodder took the individual title with a time of 15:40.60 before Lakeside eighth graders Ryan Lynch (16:56.70) and Vivian Vonwalsung (17:05.8) crossed in second and third, respectively, to lead the five Lady Vikings in the Top 10.

Another Lakeside eighth grader Olivia McMahan (17:18.10) was fifth while junior Ariana Hutchins (18:24.80) finished eighth and sophomore Cate Moore (18:25.50) was ninth.

Southwest DeKalb’s second place finish included Top 10 finishes by Deja Sims (18:01.20) in seventh and Janiyah Burke (19:04.00) in 10th.

Arabia Mountain picked up two Top 10 finishes including Kenya Dean (17:14.00) in fourth and Ania Andrews (17:59.80) in sixth.

The boys’ individual title went to Tucker’s Mercado Albaro (12:53.70) while Lakeside scored three Top 10 runners to win 34-51 over Columbia. Martin Luther King Jr. (65) finished third and Towers (85) was fourth.

Lakeside’s top finisher was sophomore Will Fell (15:48.50) in fourth and teammates Marley Russell (16:18.40) and Ben Taylor (16:18.60) had a race for the eighth and ninth spots.

Columbia’s Zion Smith (13:57.80) took second and teammate Brian Benjamin (16:55.90) was 10th to lead the Eagle’s charge into second.

Tucker’s Omari Brown (14:12.50) was third overall.

Three different schools were represented in fifth through seventh led by Towers Omari Goldson (15:58.20) followed by Kng’s Amile Mvogo (16:03.90) and Southwest DeKalb’s Kadir Williams (16:10.30) to round out the Top 10.
