Druid Hills High School and DeKalb County are getting an early morning wakeup call on Thursday (August 8) as two of their own compete for Trinidad and Tobago in the women’s 4x100m relay at 5:19 am eastern in the Paris Olympics.
Twin sisters Sanaa and Sole Frederick qualified to compete for the Trinidad and Tobago squad following their senior year at Druid Hills. The pair battled each other for state records and gold medals in leading the Lady Red Devils to back-to-back Class 4A state runners-up finishes in 2023 and 2024.
There are 16 teams entered in the event including Trinidad and Tobago and the U.S. team along with Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cote d’Ivoire, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Jamaica, Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, Spain and Switzerland.
The Fredericks are set to be in the second heat with the opportunity to qualify for the finals set for Friday (August 9) at 1:30 pm eastern.
Trinidad and Tobago’s best Olympics finish in the 4x100m relay came in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil as the group finished fifth with a time of 42.12.
