A three-part volleyball clinic for DeKalb County student athletes was held in June 25-27 at Miller Grove High School to a resounding success for coaches and players alike.
Chamblee head volleyball coach Lorri Reynolds directed the camp with the aid of assistant coaches Mallory Clark, Jaxon Clark and Mason Reynolds. The camp had 75 participants on the first day with 70 on the second and 62 on the final day.
The coaching team placed a strong emphasis on the importance of mastering basic skills, focusing initially on passing and serving. This ensured that all participants, regardless of skill level, put together a solid foundation to build upon throughout the rest of camp as the new season approaches the first week of August.
Moving forward during the clinic the participants used their basic skills to work on more advanced techniques such as hitting and setting.
Reynolds and her other teachers began to incorporate competition-based drills that reinforced the skills being taught. It also ignited a competitive spirit among the athletes making the learning process both engaging and dynamic.
Miller Grove, Lithonia, Stephenson and Martin Luther King Jr. made up the majority of the participants as the clinic drew players from across the district.
