DeKalb County picked up 15 medals to go with Top 3 finishes from Stephenson, Miller Grove and Tucker in the GHSA Boys’ State Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

The Stephenson Jaguars overcame several nagging injuries to bring home four gold medals, a silver and a bronze while finishing second to Westminster in the Class 4A state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Collin Seals and Jaelin Joseph grabbed the gold in individual events to lead the way along with two relay gold medals for the Jaguars while overcoming nagging injuries.

Seals put his injury behind and captured the 400-meter dash title as he edged out teammate Todd Burton 47.565 to 47.569 in a photo finish.

Joseph overcame some nagging injuries in the past few weeks to win the gold in the high jump (6-04.00) for 10 more points towards the Jaguars/ 59 points.

Stephenson also put two gold medal relay teams at the top of the podium with wins in the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay.

The team of Xavier Hunte, Seals, Steven Brown and Ca’Von Lucas clocked a time of 41.15 to bring home the gold in the 4×100. Brown, Seals, Xavion Harmon and Burton combined to run a 3:18.63 to give the Jaguars two relay gold medals.

Lucas brought home a bronze in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.27.

Miller Grove put together 39 points to finish in third behind Stephenson on the strength of Ali Dargan’s sweep of the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Dargan ran a 10.44 in the 100 and a 20.86 in the 200 as he repeated his 2023 sweep of the two events.

CLASS 5A
The Tucker Tigers joined Stephenson and Miller Grove with a Top 3 finish by taking third in the Class 5A boys’ state meet at Grisham Stadium in Carrollton over this past weekend.

Tucker finished with 44 points behind Chapel Hill (70) and Heritage (54) as the Tigers also battled some injuries.

John Pacely played a big role in the run for the Tigers with his performances in the throwing events to score 16 points. Pacely brought home the gold in the discus (161-07.00) and a bronze in the shot put (51-09.50).

Ian Hodge was right behind Pacely adding 15 points to the Tigers’ total. Hodge snagged the gold in the high jump (6-08.00) and added a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.04).

Hasaan Sykes added to the Tigers’ medal haul with a silver medal in the long jump (22-05.50).

The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions tied for 18th overall with 18 points keyed by the 4×800-meter relay team of Kameron Sutton, Braylin Grier, Jordan Saunders and Omari Sawyer. The group came together to pull in the gold medal with a time of 7:59.73.

CLASS 2A
The Redan Raiders finished in a tie for 15th in the Class 2A boys’ state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany over the weekend.

Jamari Drumwright and Nizer Smith both had fourth place finishes to score five points each for 10 of the Raiders 17 points.

Drumwright was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.01) and Smith fourth in the high jump (6-02.00).

Towers picked up 12 points with a pair of bronze medal finishes by Jekarean West in the hurdle events. West was third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.97) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (39.86).

CLASS 6A
Dunwoody totaled 12 points on the way to a 21st place finish at the Class 6A boys’ state meet at Barron Stadium in Rome last weekend.

Blake Williams picked up seven of the points keyed by finishing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.35). Luke Cole added three more points with his sixth place finish in the shot put (51-10.50).

Lakeside got two points from Jean luc Noisin with his seventh place finish in the long jump (21-10.00).

CLASS 3A
Rain on Thursday postponing events and graduation on Saturday limited the Cedar Grove participants in the Class 3A boys’ state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany as only one participant scored for the Saints.

Cedar Grove’s Javon Braden accounted for all the Saints’ points with his sixth place finish in the shot put (49-02.50).
