Fifteen DeKalb teams have spring football games scheduled this week. Southwest DeKalb leads off by hosting Douglass at Godfrey Stadium tonight (Wednesday, 5/15).

Spring football is winding down in DeKalb County and Southwest DeKalb opens a slate of 15 football spring games as the Panthers host the Douglass Astros tonight (Wednesday, 5/15) at 7:00 at “Buck” Godfrey Stadium.

Southwest DeKalb and second-year head coach Marion Bell are looking for a bounce-back season following a 2-8 showing in 2023. The Panthers are hosting one of four home spring games in DeKalb.

Two of the spring games are set for Thursday (5/16) as the Columbia Eagles host the Decatur Bulldogs in a 7:30 pm contest at Cobb (Avondale) Stadium and Chamblee hosts Druid Hills in a 7:00 pm matchup at North DeKalb Stadium.

Columbia and Coach Greg Barnett looks to test their metal against higher classification Decatur as they prepare for a fifth consecutive trip to the state playoffs in Class 2A.

Druid Hills is coming off its first winning season (8-1-1) since 1993 as the Red Devils head into region play for the first time in several seasons in Region 5-AAAA. Druid Hills faces a Chamblee Bulldog team that looks to extend its playoff appearance streak to three under Coach Robert Swank.

Dunwoody heads into the 2024 season coming off its first playoff appearance since 2009. The Wildcats and Coach Mike Nash host Cambridge at Dunwoody in a 7:30 pm game on Friday to round out the home spring contests.

Lakeside travels to Northview for a jamboree against Centennial and Northview on Friday beginning at 6:00 pm. Coach Morris Starr’s team has gone 13-7 over the past two seasons including an 8-2 campaign in 2022 which was the Vikings first winning since 2003. The Vikings return to region play this fall in Region 4-5A.

First-year head coach Kevin Barnes takes the reigns at Lithonia in an effort to turn around a team that has won just one game over the past two seasons and has no winning season since 2018. Lithonia travels to Salem on Friday for a 7:00 pm contest.

Coach Melvin Brown’s Miller Grove Wolverines move from Class 4A to Class 2A in 2024 after going 15-15 over the past three seasons. The Wolverines get to test themselves this spring as they travel to North Springs at 7:00 pm on Friday.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions and Head Coach Joel Kight improved throughout a 2-8 campaign that had three losses by a touchdown or less while also losing one of the team’s best players in the second half of the season. The Lions travel to Locust Grove on Friday for a 7:00 pm game to test where they are coming out of spring as they move from Class 5A to Class 4A and Region 4.

Coach Mario Drayton’s McNair Mustangs came within one win of a state playoff berth last fall in a 4-6 season and head into the fall moving from Class 2A to Class A-Division 1 Region 4. The Mustangs test this spring is a trip to face Griffin on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The Stephenson Jaguars are coming of a region title in Class 4A last fall and will be in Class 3A Region 5 this fall along with fellow DeKalb team Cedar Grove. Coach Marcus Jelks team goes to Class 6A South Gwinnett on Friday at 7:00 pm for their litmus test heading into summer workouts.

First-year head coach Marlon Stone takes over at Stone Mountain Pirates team that went 1-9 last fall. The Pirates travel to Ola on Friday at 7:00 pm.

Coach Lonnie Jones Tucker Tigers finished as the Region 4-5A runners-up last fall going 6-5 overall with a first-round playoff appearance. Tucker drops from Class 5A and will compete in Class 4A Region 5 this fall. The Tigers head for a 7:00 pm meeting at New Manchester on Friday.

The defending Class 3A state champion Cedar Grove Saints have a new head coach in Druid Hills alum Roderick Moore who has head coach stops at McNair and Redan before a stint as defensive coordinator at Dougherty. Moore and the Saints will hold a Blue/White team scrimmage on Wednesday (5/22) at Cedar Grove at 5:30 pm.
