The Georgia Swim and Dive Coaches Association named 31 DeKalb swimmers to its All-State teams following the completion of the state swim meets.
Chamblee’s Ian Combs tops the list as a first team honoree as well as the Class 4A-5A Boys’ Swimmer of the Year being responsible for 45 of Chamblee’s 331 team points which was good for second place in the 4A-5A standings.
Combs won gold in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.05) and was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (50.87). He was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.44) team with Jack Bolte, Dayon Harper and Jack McLellan which finished second and the 200-yard free relay (1:16.51) team with Harper, McLellan and Juan Mariani that also claimed the silver.
Chamblee swim and dive coaches Lorri Reynolds and Greg Valley were named the Class 4A-5A Coaches of the Year after coaching the boys to a second place finish and the girls to a fourth place finish.
Joining Combs on the first team McLellan who scored 39 points as he was third in the 100-yard freestyle (46.77) and part of the two silver medal winning relays. Harper also made the first team as part of the two silver medal winning relay teams. Bolte (200-yard medley relay) and Juan Mariani (200-yard free relay) were also named to the first team.
Second team boys’ selections include Thomas Adam, Garrett Peters and Alexander Alexandrov, all from Chamblee and Jack Rourke from Chamblee received honorable mention.
Chamblee’s Lilly Smith was named to the Class 4A-5A girls’ First Team after accounting for 35.5 of the 255.50 points compiled by her Chamblee team that finished fourth overall. Smith finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and competed in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard free relay.
Chamblee’s Mena Alexandrova was a second team selection while teammates Mina Overway, Caroline Johnson and Sonia Peters were third team and Emily Meyers was honorable mention.
Tucker’s Hadleigh McNay was also selected at an honorable mention by the coaches. She accounted for 15 of Tucker’s 33 points in the state meet.
The Class 6A boys’ first team all-state selections includes four Dunwoody swimmers led by Luke Sandberg with 45 points in the state meet. He won the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.14) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (44.94) in individual competition. He joined Graham Chang, Lucas Waasdorp and Luke Amerson in winning the 400-yard free relay (3:07.49) and was on the silver medal winning team in the 200-yard freestyle (1:25.46) with the same three swimmers.
Amerson won the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.85) as well as joining in on the two medal winning relay teams compiling 39 points along the way. Chang and Waasdrop were also named all-state for their performances in the two relays.
Lakeside had Caleb Dixon, Matthew Bender, Elijah Peterson and Indiana Crawford make the boys’ second team and Jack Lawrence and Sawyer Dixon drew honorable mention honors.
Lakeside put four girls on the Class 6A Girls’ All-State team led by three-time state champion Sophia Hook compiling 48 points including wins at the 50 freestyle (23.47) and 100 freestyle (51.66). She joined teammates Ansley Webb, Katelyn McCormick and Lyla Richards for a silver medal in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.27) and the 200 medley relay (1:47.62).
Richards added to her day with a win in the 200 IM (2:04.69) and a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.12) to put up 45 points for her team which finished fourth overall. McCormick brought home a bronze in the 200 freestyle (1:52.65) and finished fifth in the butterfly (56.81) in compiling 38 points.
Webb joined the first team selections with her performance in the two silver medal winning relays.
Dunwoody’s Reese Benton got the nod for second team all-state with a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:02.99) as she put together 35 points for the Lady Wildcats.
