Recent elementary basketball camps held on two Saturdays in the DeKalb County School District showed a need for elementary athletics as over 1,000 students attended the events making them a resounding success.
Beginning athletic programs for any age group takes gauging interest of the students, their families and those willing to put the effort in to coach and work with kids of all ages.
This first step showed the high level of interest from the students and families for a structured program. The camps provided an enriching experience for the young athletes as well as a valuable learning opportunity for the assisting coaches.
Students from various schools across the school district were in attendance to learn more about the game of basketball. Under the guidance of experienced coaches from around the district, students dived into the basics of basketball including honing their dribbling, shooting and teamwork skills. The interactive sessions facilitated individual growth while emphasizing the importance of collaboration on the court.
As a token of appreciation for their attendance and interest, each participant received a complimentary t-shirt as a memento of their involvement in these first basketball camps. Students also received a snack to take home with them.
The DeKalb County Schools Athletics Department knows and is thankful to all involved played crucial roles in making this first Elementary Basketball Camp an outstanding success. Director of Athletics James Jackson and Elementary Athletics Coordinators Brandan Lane, Curtis Jones and Brian Montgomery thank the coaches for their dedication, support and hard work that were instrumental in creating a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
Sincere thanks go out to all the principals and staff of the schools who opened their venues for the camps. The positive impact of everyone’s involvement and collective efforts were felt to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where young athletes could thrive, learn and grow on and off the court.
The staff looks forward to serving out students in the upcoming soccer camp set for Saturday, May 4. Information and registration links (in various languages) will be available by Friday, April 5.
