The Lakeside Lady Vikings rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats 14-9 at Adams Stadium on Wednesday night to secure a Class 5A-6A high school lacrosse state playoff berth out of Area 1.
After falling behind 3-0 early in the first quarter, Lakeside (6-7-1, 2-2) was spurred to victory as Reagan Flanagan scored eight goals to rally her team to the win.
Flanagan tied the game at 5-5 just before the half and then opened the second half with two goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter to put the Lady Viking up 7-5. She then had the assist on a pass to Regan Taylor to make it 8-5.
Lakeside added goals by Flanagan and Anna Crittenden to make it 10-5 before Dunwoody would answer.
The Lady Wildcats scored the next three goals as Emily Wallace, Eydie Berrong and Maya Israel all scored to cut the Lakeside lead to 10-8 with 1:10 to play.
Flanagan struck again snapping a shot in just before the third quarter ended to give Lakeside an 11-8 advantage.
Just 42 seconds into the fourth quarter Crittenden made it 12-8. Berrong scored Dunwoody’s last goal of the night with 5:19 to play to close the gap to 12-9.
Lakeside would go on to score two more goals in the final 40 seconds as Megan Gurion took a pass from Flanagan to score and Flanagan just seconds later closed it out with her eighth goal for the final of 14-9.
Dunwoody got out to a quick start scoring three goals to take the early 3-0 lead. Caroline Samuelson scored following a penalty in front of the net to open the scoring and 36 seconds later made it 2-0 to make it 2-0 with 7:35 left in the first quarter.
Berrong found the net next for Dunwoody (6-8, 1-4) to make it 3-0 with 3:15 to play in the opening period.
Lakeside bounced back with a pair of goals in the final 2:29 as Harper Church and Reagan Flanagan found the net to pull their team within 3-2 heading in to the second quarter.
Walker got a nice pass out front from Berrong to open the scoring in the second quarter to put Dunwoody up 4-2 with 8:12 left in the half.
Lakeside tied the game on another Flanagan goal and then on a Flanagan pass to Crittenden to knot the game at 4-4 with 49 seconds left in the half.
Dunwoody answered to take its last lead of the game at 5-4 just 13 seconds later on a goal by Wallace. Lakeside answered right back as Flanagan tied the game at 5-5 going into the half.
Flanagan finished with eight goals and three assists for Lakeside and Crittenden added three goals and an assist. Dunwoody had three goals each from Wallace and Berrong and two from Caroline Samuelson.
