Towers sophomore Nathan Scott picked up a state title in the GHSA Madden NFL E-Sports competition this past fall with a 2-1 win over EYEDOTU of Marietta High School.
Scott accomplished the feat in his first year of competition in the best-of-three Madden event. He opened the season with six consecutive wins over Martin Luther King Jr. Jungle Madden 1 (2-0), East Paulding (2-0), Holy Innocent’s (2-0), EYEDOTU – Marietta (2-0) and Irwin County (2-0).
What would be his only loss of the season was a tough 2-1 decision to defending champion Chris P. Bacon from Peach County in Week 7. He bounced back with another 2-0 win in the final regular season match against Lambert to finish 7-1 (15-2 games) and in second place in the league to Bacon.
He opened tournament play on December 1 with a 2-0 victory over Creekside Madden Whit to advance to the quarterfinals against Panther Blitz of A.R. Johnson High (9-3) where he took another 2-0 win.
The semifinal was a meeting with Creekside Madden Red (8-3) and ended in another 2-0 victory to advance to the championship on December 14.
EYEDOTU (9-2) reached the championship match by upsetting Bacon (Peach County) in a tight 2-1 decision.
A split of the first two games set up the tiebreaker to for the state title. Scott knocked off his opponent 28-7 in that final game to claim the title and finish at 11-1 on the season.
Scott also excels in the classroom with a 3.5 GPA and is part of the Towers High School choir. He is also a valuable member of the Spring Mario Kart 8 team from Towers which will be playing this spring.
He is coached by Tommy Varner and Keisha Davis.
