The Chapel Hill Panthers completed the programs first undefeated championship season by exploding for a 71-28 win over the Tucker Tigers in the DeKalb County Middle Schools County Championships boys’ final on Saturday at Arabia Mountain High School.
Chapel Hill (17-0) came out firing on all cylinders putting up 21 points on offense and allowing the Tigers just five points in the opening period of play. Jacob Reid put up 10 points, including hitting five of six from the free throw line while Demetrius White added four on a pair of buckets.
The Tigers managed a three-pointer by Vance Wilder and a basket by Jaden Barnett in the opening period.
Chapel Hill kept the pressure on in the second quarter led by Treu Taylor who hit a pair of threes while Jamarion Davis added five, and Tyrese Jones and Brandon Daniel both added four in the period.
Wilder added another three in the second quarter to collect five of the eight points for the Tigers (15-2).
Tavaris Roberts stepped up in the third quarter with nine points, including three of three from the free-throw line, and Reid knocked down six more to go with five from Kei-Sean Roberts as the Panthers continued their offensive onslaught.
Tucker put up its biggest quarter of the game with 12 points led again by Wilder with five points, four from Sterling Pritchett and a three from Brayden Reddick.
Both teams settled for just one basket each in the final period to close out the 71-28 win for the Panthers.
Reid put up 20 points to go with 15 rebounds and four blocks to be chosen the game’s Most Valuable Player. Four other Panthers got in double figures including Tavaris Roberts with 12 (8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals), Treu Taylor with 12 points (4 assists, 4 steals), Kei-Sean Roberts 11 points (10 assists, 3 steals) and Demetrius White 10 points (3 assists, 3 steals).
Tucker was led by a team-high 16 points by Vance Wilder.
Chapel Hill’s win gave the school its first sweep of the title games and became just the second school to accomplish the feat joining Stephenson (2015). The squads also made history as the only school to complete the sweep while going undefeated. The title was Chapel Hill’s third since 2008.
