Chapel Hill and Redan set to collide for Region 1 boys’ title.

The Region 1 boys’ title is up for grabs this weekend after region leaders Chapel Hill and Redan picked up victories on Wednesday to set up a show down at Redan Middle School.

A 52-14 win for the Chapel Hill Panthers (11-0, 7-0) over the Freedom Rams (2-9, 2-5) on Wednesday kept the Panthers record spotless heading into the Region 1 deciding game at Redan. Kei-Sean Roberts was the leader for the Panthers as he finished with a 12-point, 11-assists double-double while teammate Jacob Reid finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds in the win.

Meanwhile the defending county champions Redan Raiders (10-1, 7-0) kept their Region 1 mark with no losses with a hard-fought 50-46 overtime victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (7-4, 4-3). Amare Medhin hit for 23 points (4 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) keyed the game for Redan and Ke’Shawn Briggs added 15 points (4 assists, 3 rebounds). The pair was aided in the win by Zaheim Silva with 9 points (11 rebounds, 2 steals) and Zafar Robertson (9 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 blocks)

Champion 49, Henderson 47
The Champion Chargers (10-1, 7-0) stayed on a collision course with the Tucker Tigers for the top spot in Region 2 boys’ play following a thrilling 49-47 victory over the Henderson Cougars (6-5, 4-3). Dakota Freeman hit for a game-high 19 points to lead Champion. Joshua Mosley scored 16 points for Henderson and was joined in double figures by teammates Ashdon Sims and Julian Russell with 10 points each.

Tucker 77, Sequoyah 0
The Tucker Tigers kept pace with Champion in Region 2 action with a 77-0 victory over the Sequoyah Braves (0-11, 0-7). Sterling Pritchett hit for a game-high 20 points and Vance Wilder added 18 for the Tigers. Tucker and Champion collide in the final regular season game on January 24 at Champion.

Beacon Hill 42, Salem 34
The Beacon Hill Bulldogs (4-7, 3-4) halted a two-game win streak for the Salem Lions (2-9, 1-6) with a 42-34 home victory on Wednesday. Matthew Norman led the way for the Bulldogs with 15 points followed by Hollis Rucker with 12 points and My-El Summers with 8 points. William Burks scored 16 points for Salem and Dylan Jackson added 8.

Bethune 50, Columbia 15
The Bethune Lions (3-8, 1-6) notched their first Region 1 win of the season with a 50-15 win over the Columbia Eagles (0-11, 0-7). Andrew Turner had a big night for the Lions as he put together an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double in the win. Montavious Washington (9 points, 8 assists) and De’Quarrion Trammell (10 points) aided the Bethune win.

Stone Mountain 47, McNair 41
The Stone Mountain Pirates (5-6, 2-5) knocked off the McNair Mustangs (6-5, 3-4) 47-41 in Region 1 play on Wednesday. Zion Harrold and Khari Davis fueled the win with their play of defense and on the boards. Rashad Blaylock hit for a game-high 25 to lead McNair.

Cedar Grove 57, Lithonia 49
The Cedar Grove Saints (7-5, 5-2) solidified third place in Region 2 by taking down the Lithonia Bulldogs (4-7, 2-5) 57-49 on Wednesday. Tayson Blunt had the hot hand with 22 points (3 assists) for the Saints and Brenden Flounory 9 points (6 rebounds, 5 steals) played tough defense. Anthony Flournoy hit for 14 points and Javonte Harrington added 11 in the loss.

Druid Hills 55, Miller Grove 31
The Druid Hills Dragons (9-2, 5-2) bounced back from a tough three-point loss to undefeated Chapel Hill to defeat the Miller Grove Wolverines (6-5, 4-3) to slide into third place in the Region 1 standings. Clay Humphries topped the scored with 20 points for the Dragons.

Chamblee 38, Peachtree 36
The Chamblee Bulldogs (4-7, 3-4) got a buzzer beating put back by Bobby Wood to edge the Peachtree Patriots (4-7, 3-4) 38-36 to move into a three-way tie for fifth in Region 2. Kaiden Horton scored 13 points and Cody Krieger added 11 for the Patriots in the loss.

GIRLS RECAPS
The Cedar Grove Lady Saints and the Stephenson Lady Jaguars continue to ride that second-place spot in their respective regions as teams come down the stretch with two games left in the season.

Cedar Grove (9-2, 6-1) bounced back from their first Region 2 loss to undefeated Champion to beat the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (38-5). The tandem of Ziryah Bell 18 points (7 rebounds, 6 steals) and Conner Hall 10 points (11 rebounds) forged the win for the Saints.

Stephenson (10-1, 6-1) added to its win steak with a 45-4 win over the Redan Lady Raiders (3-8, 1-6) to extend that streak to five games. Jayla Walton swished the nets for a game-high 25 points in the win and teammate Cyncere Sims-Turner knocked down 16.

Champion 49, Henderson 9
The Champion Lady Chargers (11-0, 7-0) continued to hold the lead in Region 2 by defeating the Henderson Lady Cougars (0-11, 0-7) 49-9. Lailah Cox led the scoring with 19 points for Champion while Jalaina Alford added 10 points and 12 rebounds and Angela Kinsale contributed 7 points.

Chapel Hill 48, Freedom 9
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (11-0, 7-0) matched Champion with a 48-9 Region 1 win over the Freedom Lady Rams (6-5, 4-3) to keep their spot atop the Region 1 standings. Chapel Hill got a big night from Avantey Gilreath with 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Kennedi Thomas added 10 points (6 rebounds, 6 steals) and Mauri Barnes 9 points (6 assists, 4 steals) also added to the winning total. Grace Kasongo led Freedom with 8 points.

Salem 24, Beacon Hill 13
The Salem Lady Lions (9-2, 5-2) picked up a key win in Region 2 via a 24-13 defensive road victory over the Beacon Hill Lady Bulldogs (7-4, 5-2). Mariah Jackson, Dede Spaulding and Faith Andrews combined for 17 of the 24 points for Salem while Jackson, Londyn Richardson and Zee Boone combined for 18 steals in the game.

Tucker 32, Sequoyah 20
The Tucker Lady Tigers (5-6, 3-4) improved their playoff seeding by upending the Sequoyah Lady Braves (2-9, 1-6) 32-20 in Region 2 action. A total team effort led by Amunique Blyden and Mikeria Lowery with 9 points each keyed the Tucker win.

Druid Hills 42, Miller Grove 14
The Druid Hills Lady Dragons (8-3, 5-2) moved into third place in the Region 1 standings with a 42-14 victory over the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (1-10, 1-6). Azelia Snell led the Dragons in scoring in the win.

Peachtree 21, Chamblee 19
The Peachtree Lady Patriots (4-7, 3-4) notched a third consecutive win and moved into a three-way tie for fifth place with Chamblee and Tucker in the Region 2 standings by slipping past the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (4-7, 3-4) 21-19. Lauren Dowhower led the way in the win with 8 points.

Columbia 36, Bethune 30
The Columbia Lady Eagles (7-4, 4-3) extended their win streak to four consecutive games and moved into a three-way tie for fourth in the Region 1 standings with a 36-30 win over the Bethune Lady Lions (6-5, 4-3). Angel Rice led the Eagles with 17 points followed by Tamicah Pate with 15 points (6 steals). Joy Perryman added 10 rebounds for Columbia.

McNair 35, Stone Mountain 7
The McNair Lady Mustangs ((4-7, 3-4) snapped a three-game skid by downing the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (0-11, 0-7) 35-7.
