Two games into Region 4-5A action Tucker and Arabia Mountain both sit atop the region standings with 2-0 marks after big wins on Friday night.

The Tigers (4-3, 2-0) moved to the top of the region standings via a 40-14 win over the Chamblee Bulldogs (3-4, 1-1) at Adams Stadium.

Tucker led just 12-7 with five minutes to play in the first half and would go on to outscore Chamblee 28-7 in the win, including going up 19-7 at the break.

Senior running back Jordan McCoy went over 200 yards rushing for the second consecutive week finishing the night going for 226 yards on 27 carries with three touchdowns to lead the Tigers. Quarterback Jamar Graham added a pair of touchdown passes, including a 27-yard score to Jayden Joyner and another to Reshard Martin, and also a rushing touchdown.

Region 4-5A has this coming weekend off and when they return on the 20th the Tigers will take on Martin Luther King (2-4, 1-1), a 7-6 winner over Lithonia.

Arabia Mountain 25, Decatur 12
The Arabia Mountain Rams went to Decatur and came away with a 25-12 victory over the Bulldogs to remain tied with Tucker at the top of the Region 4-5A standings.

Senior Daniel Turpin had a big night in the win for the Rams (6-1, 2-0) rushing for three touchdowns in the game and adding 8 total tackles (5 solo, 3 assists) including three tackles for a loss and an interception on the night.

Quarterback Julian Shanks added a five-yard touchdown pass to Alex Richard to aid the Rams’ cause.

Following the bye week, Arabia Mountain returns to action taking on Chamblee (3-4, 1-1), a 40-14 loser to Tucker last weekend. Tucker and Arabia Mountain are set to collide in the final week of the regular season.

Stephenson 20, Westminster 13
The Stephenson Jaguars rallied from a 13-0 halftime deficit to knock off the Westminster Wildcats 20-13 in a Region 6-4A road contest last Friday.

Stephenson (5-2, 1-1) opened the second half with a touchdown on the opening possession as Marte Barton connected with Romando Craddock on a 45-yard touchdown pass play to pull within 13-7.

The score remained 13-7 until Devin Ingram (19 carries, 189 yards, 2 TDs) scored on a seven-yard run with seven minutes to play to knot the game at 13-13. The score was set up by a 35-yard run by Barton.

Ingram added his second touchdown of the night with 1:48 to play in the game taking it 65-yards to the house. Anthony Zelaya (2-3 PATs) added the point after to make it 20-13.

Collin Seals then sealed the win with an interception to stop the final Westminster possession. Stephenson moves on to play DeKalb rival Miller Grove (5-2, 1-1), a 47-7 loser to Holy Innocents’ on Friday, in a key region matchup for both teams.

 

M.L. King 7, Lithonia 6
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions pulled out a tough 7-6 Region 4-5A win over the Lithonia Bulldogs on Friday night at Avondale Stadium.

Lithonia (1-6) took an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter but the Lions’ defense stopped the two-point conversion attempt to keep the game a at 6-0 heading into the second quarter.

Sa’Kuan Foster ran in for a touchdown to tie the game at 6-6 in the second quarter. David Whiting tacked on the PAT to give the Lions the lead for good at 7-6.

Both defenses played tough the rest of the not allowing anymore scores. Michael Washington and Ezekial Huff had back-to-back interceptions in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Lions (2-5). Huff also had a fumble recovery on the first play of the game.
