The Clarkston Angoras picked up their first win of the 2023 high school football season on the back timely turnovers to shut out the Cross Keys Indians 24-0 at Hallford Stadium on Thursday night.
Cross Keys (0-4) stopped Clarkston (1-2) on downs at the Indians’ two-yard line but two plays later a Clarkston defender flew into the Cross Key’s backfield and stripped the ball. After a scramble for the loose ball Clarkston’s Habeeb Abdullah came up with the football giving the Angoras a touchdown.
Perry Osakue ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 Angoras with 4:13 left in the first quarter.
The score remained 8-0 until another Indians’ fumble was recovered at the Cross Keys’ nine-yard line to set the Angoras up for another touchdown early in the third quarter. Two plays after the fumble recovery, NyShaun Porter took the football six yards into the end zone with 9:11 to play in the quarter. Osakue tacked on the two-point conversion again to make it 16-0.
Six minutes later a bad snap helped give the Angoras the football in Cross Keys’ territory once again, this time at the 23-yard line. Porter would get loose for an 18-yard run that eventually set up the final score of the game. Osakue would take the ball the final two yards for the touchdown. He would add his third two-point conversion of the night to make it 24-0.
The Clarkston defense was opportunistic and also collected 18 tackles for a loss in the game while holding Cross Keys to just seven yards of total offense. Porter finished the night with 17 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cross Keys defense had seven negative yardage plays against the Angoras to help limit Clarkston’s offense to just 186 yards of offense in game.
