DeKalb middle school football openers were moved up an hour to help alleviate heat.

The 2023 DeKalb County Schools middle school football season gets underway on Saturday morning in stadiums across DeKalb County.

Due to the high temperatures and heat index expected on Saturday the game times are moved up an hour for the safety of the athletes, coaches and staff working the games. All 10:00 am games will start at 9:00 am and all 11:30 am games begin at 10:30 am.

Stephenson plays host to McNair at Hallford Stadium at 10:30 am to begin defense of the Jaguars’ 2022 county championship. Playoff participant Champion and semifinalist Lithonia open the day at Hallford with a 9:00 am kickoff.

Chapel Hill, the county runner-up a year ago, opens its season taking on Redan at 9:00 am at Avondale Stadium. Semifinalist Tucker, who lost a 6-0 decision to Chapel Hill in the semis, faces off with Sequoyah at 10:30 am at Avondale.

Henderson hosts Salem in a 9:00 am game at Adams followed by Cedar Grove entertaining Stone Mountain at 10:30 am.

Druid Hills hooks up against Columbia in the 9:00 am game at Godfrey followed by playoff participant Chamblee meeting Freedom in the 10:30 am game.

The only game at North DeKalb Stadium has Miller Grove hosting 2022 playoff participant Bethune in a 9:00 am contest.
