Chamblee junior Elena Smith threw three-perfect innings to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 15-0 Region 4-5A victory over the visiting Martin Luther King Jr. Lions at Chamblee on Tuesday afternoon.
Smith faced the minimum of nine batters and struck out seven, including the final six King batters to close out the run-rule shortened game.
Chamblee sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first putting five runs on the board after Smith set down the first three batters in the top of the first. Julia Mansour had a two-run double to left and Smith aided her own cause with a two-run single of her own to put Chamblee up 4-0. Caroline Runsick added an RBI single for Chamblee to finish off the five-run inning.
Smith struck out the side in a three-up, three-down inning in the top of the second to bring the Bulldogs up in the bottom of second. Chamblee put up 10 runs in the second as 13 Bulldogs made their way to the batter’s box.
Three walks and an error opened the door for Chamblee to start the big second inning to push a couple of runs across. Runsick struck with a two-run double to deep center as the lead continued to grow.
Rachel Axelson hit a sharp single to left field to plate two more runs in the inning and Julia Mansour tacked a pair of runs on with a double into left field and Mackenzie Cassidy capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 15-0.
Smith wrapped up the game by striking out the side in the top of third.
Chamblee improved to 4-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in Region 4-5A while the Lions fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the region.
