The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs broke a 2-2 tie by going on a 12-1 run against the Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers for a 23-4 non-region lacrosse victory at Southwest DeKalb on Tuesday.
Chamblee (4-7) jumped in front 2-0 in the first five minutes on goals by Sophie Smith and KK Mathison (assist to Ashley Nelson) before Southwest DeKalb bounced back to knot the game at 2-2. Iyahanna Murphy charged up the field for two consecutive goals in less than a minute to pull the Lady Panthers (0-3) even with 16:40 left in the first half.
Grace Nichols broke the tie at the 15:20 mark and Ashley Nelson added a pair of quick scores to make it 5-2 as the Lady Bulldogs turned up the pressure on offense (20 first half shots on goal). Mathison made it 6-2 before Murphy struck for another goal for Southwest DeKalb to cut the margin to 6-3 with 11:53 remaining in the half.
Nelson started what would be an 8-0 run by Chamblee with a goal at the 10:47 mark. Audrey Screer would score two goals in the run as Nichols, Mathison, Smith, Rachel Runsick and Mikayla Harwood would all score to close out the first half with Chamblee ahead 14-3
Southwest DeKalb goalie McKenzie Hughes played tough with 11 saves in the first half, including four more during the final 9:51 of the half.
Nelson kicked off a 5-0 run to begin the second half scoring one minute in for her fourth goal of the game. Nichols (assist Harwood), Sarah Marcus (assist Nichols, Mathison (assist Nelson) and Riley Yerovsek all scored to extend the lead to 19-3.
Murphy got her fourth goal of the game with 10:46 to play to round out the scoring for the Lady Panthers.
Smith, Nichols (assist Yerovsek), Harwood and an unidentified Lady Bulldog (#27) finished out the last four goals for Chamblee.
Ashley Nelson, Grace Nichols and KK Mathison all scored four goals for Chamblee and Sophie Smith added three. Audrey Screer and Mikayla Harwood picked up two goals apiece. Chamblee keeper Mia Whelan finished the day with six saves.
Iyahanna Murphy scored all four Southwest goals in the game. Keeper Mckenzie Hughes finished with 13 saves as Chamblee outshot the Lady Panthers 33 to 12 in the game.
