JV Basketball Championships set for 10 am start at Miller Grove High School on Saturday.
The DeKalb County Junior Varsity Basketball Championships are set to begin at 10:00 am on Saturday with a pair of undefeated teams meeting for the girls’ title to open Championship Saturday at Miller Grove High School.
Southwest DeKalb (12-0) and Arabia Mountain (12-0) both advanced to the girls’ championship game with semifinal wins last weekend and open the day’s championship play that features all four junior varsity and middle school championship games.
The Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers knocked off the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (10-2) 47-38 to advance. Shamaria Arnold hit for a game-high 22 points to lead Southwest in the win. Chamblee got 14 points from Brianna Wood and 13 from Mackenzie Lewis in the loss.
The Arabia Mountain Lady Rams enters the finals for the second consecutive year following a 40-31 victory over the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (8-3). Ebonee Bumbrey (16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 assists) and Caiden Bradford (10 points, 4 steals, 4 assists) fueled the win.
BOYS SEMIFINALS
The boys’ championship game has the Region 2 No. 2 team (Arabia Mountain) and No. 4 team (Lithonia) meeting in the 11:30 game at Miller Grove.
The Arabia Mountain Rams (11-1) won their way into the championship game for the second consecutive year with a 45-40 win over previously undefeated Southwest DeKalb (11-1). Boubacar Bah struck for 18 points and Jade Ward collected 11 more in the win for the Rams.
In the other semifinal, the Lithonia Bulldogs (10-3) clawed their way from the play-in to win three consecutive games to reach the finals with a 54-44 win over the Columbia Eagles (10-2). Jamari Allen led the way for Lithonia with 10 pints (3 assists, 4 rebounds) and Isiah Sloan added 9 points (8 assists) in the win.
Brandon and Bryson Bigsby along with Jashawn Thompson and Reggie Harris led the Eagles.
