DeKalb County Schools was well represented in the Class 6A and Class 4-5A girls’ State Swimming Championships at Georgia Tech as the Lakeside Lady Vikings (6A) and Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (4A-5A) both finished fourth to wrap of the swim season.
Senior Sophia Hook, junior Lyla Richards and senior Katelyn McClintock led the way with individual medals in competition on Friday to lead Lakeside to its fourth-place finish.
Hook claimed the only gold for DeKalb County girls at state this year with a win in the 50 freestyle (23.64). She followed up with a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle (52.41).
Richards picked up a pair of bronze medals with third place finishes in the 200-individual medley (2:06.87) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.01).
Katelyn McClintock had top five finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:55.45, 5th) and the 100 butterfly (56.84, 4th).
Richards, McClintock and Hook teamed up with Ansley Webb to race to a silver medal in the 200-medley relay (1:46.80) to set a new Lakeside school record. Anna Baldwin joined Richards, McClintock and Hook to bring home a silver medal in the 400-freestyle relay (3:33.87).
Dunwoody finished 17th overall with 53 points led by sophomore Reese Benton. Benton claimed a bronze in the 500 freestyle (5:03.99) and picked up a fourth-place finish in the breaststroke (1:05.46) just behind Richards.
Class 4A-5A
Senior Evelyn Entrekin claimed a pair of silver medals to lead the charge for the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs fourth place finish in the Class 4A-5A girls’ State Swim Championships.
Entrekin took second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.51) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.01) to fuel a good day for the Lady Bulldogs.
Other individual top five finishes for Chamblee included junior Lily Smith’s fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle (53.03) and freshman Mena Alexandrova’s fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.84).
Entrekin, Smith, Alexandrova and senior Madeline Murphy teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 200-medley relay (1:47.40).
Tucker finished 30th overall behind three Top 20 finishes including sophomore Katelyn Nawyn’s 16th place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.39) and Hadleigh McNay’s 19th in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.00). McNay and Nawyn teamed with Ada Mast and Roxy Mast to finish 20th in the 200-freestyle relay (1:50.42).
