Lakeside’s Adia Bouldin took control of the game in the fourth quarter hitting for 17 points as the Lady Vikings pulled away to a 61-42 Region 4-6A victory over the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats at in girls’ high school basketball play Dunwoody on Tuesday night.
Dunwoody (4-15, 1-7) had trailed by as much as 18 points in the second quarter and were down just four (42-38) with 6:03 to play in the game when Bouldin went on a 9-2 run to open the gap.
Bouldin, who went over 1,000 career points earlier this month, started with a drive, had 12-foot pull up jumper, a three-pointer and another drive for a basket as the Lakeside (11-6, 5-3) lead expanded to 51-40.
She would go on to hit four out four from the free-throw line and add two more buckets, the last with 1:05 to play that made it 59-42. Mia Burns closed out the score with an offensive put back with seven seconds left to make the final of 61-42.
The Lakeside senior scored the last four points of the first quarter and the first seven of the second quarter as Lakeside took control of the game up 22-8 with 6:01 left in the half. Following three-pointers by Burns and Claudia Thomas, Bouldin hit a pair of free throws to make it 31-13.
Anderson Bowe would score Dunwoody’s next six points and Ellie Hull hit a three-pointer and added two free throws in the final 1:51 to pull the Wildcats within 10 (34-24) at the half.
Jackie Smith had three offensive put backs in the third quarter, including one at the 2:40 mark that pulled Dunwoody within 37-35. After a Bouldin drive Bowe scored on a nice pass from Smith to make it a two-point game at 39-37 with 1:48 remaining in the quarter.
Bouldin made it a four-point game as the period ended with an offensive put back of her own and Lakeside took a 41-37 lead into the fourth quarter where she took complete control of the game.
She finished with 40 points and 5 rebounds in the game while teammate Mia Burns finished with 7 points and 12 rebounds. Anderson Bowe had 19 points and 22 rebounds for Dunwoody and Ellie Hull added 13 points.
Lakeside is a half game in front of St. Pius for third in the Region 4-6A standings.
(B) Dunwoody 70, Lakeside 54
Dunwoody’s Ryan Smith scored 19 second-half points to fuel the Wildcats 70-54 Region 4-6A boys’ high school basketball win over the Lakeside Vikings at Dunwoody on Tuesday night.
Smith hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds left in the first half to pull the Wildcats (10-11, 4-4) into a 31-31 tie at the half with the Vikings (8-11, 1-7) and then used the momentum to help the Wildcats pull away.
A drive along the baseline for a reverse layup by Emmerson Mitchell gave Dunwoody the lead for good at 38-33 with 6:23 to play in the third quarter. Following a three-pointer by Mason Weeks, Smith went on a tear scoring 10 consecutive points and 13 of the last 16 of the third.
Smith hit a layup on a length of the court pass from Mitchell and then put an offensive rebound back in for a 42-35 advantage. He then drilled two three-pointers from the left corner to make it a 48-39 advantage with 1:50 left in the quarter.
Mitchell hit a three-point play and then with 44 seconds remaining Smith hit his third trey of the quarter for a 54-41 lead. Lakeside’s Sebastian Reed drove the lane with nine seconds left to cut the lead to 54-43 with a quarter to play.
Back-to-back threes by Meeks and Smith early in the fourth quarter started a 10-0 run that ended with consecutive offensive stick backs by Loic Keutcha for a 64-44 lead. Smith added an old-fashioned three-point play with 2:35 to play.
AJ Wheeler hit a floater on a drive and then a three-pointer for Lakeside, but it was too little to late as the Wildcats finished off the 70-54 win.
Wheeler hit back-to-back three-pointers early in the second quarter that put the Vikings up 25-17 with 6:28 to play in the first half. Zach Schanek’s three pointer and two free throws by Mitchell knocked the lead down to 25-22. A layup by Keutcha pulled Dunwoody within 31-28 with 1:02 left in the half to set up Smith’s game-tying three-pointer before the half.
Smith finished with 24 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Wildcats in the win. Emerson Mitchell added 17 points and 6 rebounds and Loic Keutcha had a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double for Dunwoody. AJ Wheeler finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Sebastian Reed added 16 points in the loss for Lakeside.
