Home court advantage for Columbia proved too much for Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy as the home teams swept the Region 5-2A games in blowout fashion on Friday night.
The Lady Eagles (13-6, 9-1) bounced back from a tough loss to Landmark Christian on Tuesday using a 24-0 run in the third quarter to blow open the game on the way to a 57-16 victory over the Chargers (5-8, 5-4) to open the sweep.
Leading 24-11 with 7:27 to play in the third quarter Columbia went on its 24-0 run started on a 14-foot jumper by Keamura Robinson. Kerselin Anderson hit eight of the next 10-points in the run including a pair of three-points. Nia Anderson added seven points in the run that included a three-pointer and an offensive put back.
Makayla Juhan added three-pointer and the run ended on layup by Robinson on a feed from Nia Anderson to make it 48-11. Kamri Gilbert dished out four assists in the run.
Kerselin Anderson added another three in the fourth quarter to go with a short jumper. Tekirah Jones got her first playing time since a knee injury last summer and got a bucket late.
The Chargers managed just three free throws in six attempts in the fourth quarter while going 0-5 from the field as Columbia wrapped the win.
Robinson had 10 first half points as Columbia built a 22-9 lead at the half.
Kerselin Anderson led all scorers with 21 points followed by Keamura Robinson with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Nia Anderson with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Caroline Buckley had 5 points and 7 rebounds to lead Eagle’s Landing.
(B) Columbia 79, Eagle’s Landing 40
The No. 2 ranked Columbia Eagles scored 22 points in each of the first three quarters on the way to a dominating 79-40 win over Eagle’s Landing in the nightcap at Columbia.
Rashaad Headges opened the game for the Eagles (19-1, 10-0) with a three-pointer from the left corner and would score eight points in the opening period, including a second three-pointer as Columbia went up 22-6 after one period of play. Jamarcus Hatcher scored 9 points in the first quarter including an old-fashioned three-point play and a pair of offensive put backs.
Jadan Baugh fueled the 22-point second quarter with 9 points, which included a steal for a layup and the and-one. Terrell Wright scored 6 points and pulled down four rebounds, including two put backs, and two assists and a steal in the second period.
Columbia took a 44-16 lead into the half and would come out to score 22 points for the third consecutive quarter. Headges started the quarter with stick back as he, Hatcher, Baugh and Cassidy Golden each scored four points in the quarter. Golden put in the last basket of the period with 38 seconds to go to make it a 66-29 advantage in favor of the Eagles.
The Eagles’ bench was cleared in the fourth quarter and Bryson Bigsby provided the opening points for Columbia to with four rebounds and a pair of assists. Golden scored four points and grabbed three rebounds and Amari Copeland knocked down a three pointer.
Hatcher finished the night with 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Eagles while Jadan Baugh added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Headges finished with 15 points, including three treys.
Kam Warford finished the night with 12 points, including two threes in the fourth quarter, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Aaraon Johnson contributed 11 points for the Chargers (6-13, 3-6).
