A 50-42 victory over the Chapel Hill Panthers propelled the Redan Raiders to a 4-0 start on the season in DeKalb County middle school basketball action last Wednesday.
Tristan Mitchell had a big performance for the Raiders, who also improved to a Region 1 best 3-0 mark, with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in the game. Amare Medhin hit for 11 points and added 3 assists and 2 steals. Brandon Armstrong added 8 points and 2 steals.
Chapel Hill (1-2, 1-1) had a pair of players in double figures as well in Just Tayler (13 points) and Nazir Mergan (12 points).
BOYS RECAPS
Lithonia 34, Cedar Grove 33
The Lithonia Bulldogs won a last second thriller 34-33 over the Cedar Grove Saints (2-2, 1-2) to improve to 3-1 on the season. Armani Myco scored with eight seconds to play for the game winner for Lithonia, now 2-1 in Region 2 play. Anthony Flournoy led the Bulldogs with 13 points and Caleb Cooper added 7.
Henderson 42, Sequoyah 12
Three players hit double figures to lead the Henderson Cougars to a 42-12 victory over the Sequoyah Braves in Region 2 play. James Marcelin (11 points), Hani Siddiqui (10 points) and Joshua Mosley (10 points) led the way for Cougars to improve to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in Region 2. Eduardo Miguel-Cruz had a team high of 10 points to lead Sequoyah (0-3, 0-2).
Chamblee 57, Peachtree 56
Christopher Oliver hit for a game-high 23 points to lead the Chamblee Bulldogs (1-2, 1-1) to an exciting 57-56 Region 2 win over the Peachtree Patriots (1-3, 1-2). Eston McDow added 16 points and 5 assists for the Bulldogs. Trevor Lordo led the Patriots with a team high 18 points.
Freedom 26, Stone Mountain 23
The Freedom Rams picked up their first win of the season with a slim 26-23 victory over the Stone Mountain Pirates (1-2, 0-2) in Region 1 play. Usher Evanculla led the way with 10 points and Mojowk Ajobong added 9 points for the Rams (1-3, 1-2).
GIRLS RECAPS
The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs pulled into a tie at the top of the Region 2 standings alongside Champion and Salem at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in region play with a 52-20 win over the Peachtree Lady Patriots (1-3, 1-2). Kyndal Hardaway hit for a game-high 29 points for Chamblee in the win.
Cedar Grove 28, Lithonia 10
The Cedar Grove Lady Saints moved up in the Region 2 standings to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the region with a 28-10 win over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (0-4, 0-3). Imani Coleman put together a solid game with 12 points, 6 steals and 4 rebounds for Cedar Grove.
Freedom 24, Stone Mountain 13
Grace Kasongo put on a show for the Freedom Lady Rams (1-3, 1-2) in a 24-13 win over the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (1-2, 0-2). Kasongo scored 19 points and grabbed 6 boards to lead Freedom to the win.
Chapel Hill 50, Redan 25
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (2-1, 2-0) improved to 2-0 in the Region 1 standings alongside Druid Hills (3-0, 2-0) and Stephenson (3-0, 2-0) with a 50-25 win over the Redan Lady Raiders (2-2, 2-1). Londyn Richardson collected 11 points and 6 rebounds and Koryonia Magee added 8 points to lead Redan.
