The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats went 1-1 on the opening day of the South Effingham Super Regional of the Class 6A state fastpitch playoffs on Tuesday to advance to within one win of the championship finals against host South Effingham.

Dunwoody (13-15) knocked off Woodward 6-4 in first round play before falling to South Effingham 15-0 in the second round to fall into the losers’ bracket. South Effingham won its opener 14-0 over Tift County and is in the driver’s seat needing just one win to advance to the Class 6A State Tournament in Columbus.

Dunwoody faces the winner of the 1:00 pm game between Tift County and Woodward Academy at 3:30 pm in the effort to advance to the championship round. Dunwoody would have to beat South Effingham twice to reach the Elite 8.

In Class 4A Super Regional play, both Southwest DeKalb and Miller Grove fell with two losses on Tuesday.

Southwest DeKalb (10-130 lost its opener 12-0 to Lovett (14-13) in the Walnut Grove Super Regional and then was eliminated from the regional with a 19-3 loss to Sonoraville.

Miller Grove dropped its first two games in the Pace Academy Super Regional losing the opener to host Pace (19-10) 15-0. The Wolverines then took a 15-2 loss to Northwest Whitfield to end their season.

The Columbia Eagles had their season come to an end with a pair of losses in the Class 2A Mt. Paran Super Regional on Tuesday. Columbia (4-7) lost its opener to host Mt. Paran (26-5) 18-0 before losing an elimination game against Providence Christian 23-5.

Chamblee (23-3) hosts a Super Regional on Thursday in Class 5A state playoff action facing McIntosh (11-14) at 9:00 am to open play at Chamblee. Union Grove and Ware County follow at 11:00 am in the double elimination tournament.

Arabia Mountain (9-7) opens the Jones County Class 5A Super Regional against Northside Columbus (17-11) at 2:00 pm on Thursday. Jones County and Coffee County meet at 12:00 pm to open play.

Tucker (5-14) and Harris County (23-5) open the Harris County Class 5A Super Regional at 12:00 p.m. followed by Ola and Statesboro at 2:30 p.m,

Cedar Grove (4-4) and Lafayette (20-5-1) play in the Wesleyan Class 3A Super Regional at 2:00 p.m while host Wesleyan and Franklin County opening play at 12:00 p.m.
