Kenyon Partridge had two big fumble recoveries in the third quarter to propel the No. 8 ranked Columbia Eagles to a 20-0 win the Washington Bulldogs at Avondale Stadium on Thursday night.

The two teams were in a scoreless tie when Partridge picked up a Bulldogs’ fumble at the Washington 17 and returned it to the seven to set up the first score of the game.

A facemask call on Washington made it first and goal at the two-yard line when the Eagles turned to Roland Edwin who plowed his way up the middle into the end zone with 3:39 left in the period. Giovanny Ramirez hit the PAT to make it 7-0.

Columbia’s defense forced a fourth and 14 at the Washington 36 and then pressured the punt to force a punt that went out of bounds just eight-yards up field. the Eagles were 44 yards from extending the lead.

Another personal foul on Washington gave the Eagles a first down at the Bulldogs’ 12-yard line. It took just one more play to up the lead as Royce Tolbert found a seem between the guard and tackle and danced into the end zone. Ramirez was good again on the PAT to make it 14-0 with 54.4 seconds left in the third quarter.

The first play after the kickoff the Bulldogs tried a double pass but before Jamal Morton could get the pass away downfield, he was hit and the ball came loose. Partridge was again in the right spot at the right time and scooped up the football and raced 19 yards untouched into the end zone to make it 20-0 with 32.3 seconds left in the third. A mishandled snap on the PAT turned into a two-point conversion pass attempt that was intercepted in the end zone by the Bulldogs.

Royce Tolbert rushed for 79 yards and touchdown on 14 carries to lead the Eagles’ offense. Jamal Walton finished with 88 yards rushing on 26 carries for the Bulldogs (0-3).

Lakeside 24, Forest Park 20
The Lakeside Vikings scored in the final minute to pull out a come-from-behind 24-20 win over visiting Forest Park at Adams Stadium on Thursday night.

The Vikings (3-0) lead 17-8 early in the third quarter before Forest Park rallied with a pair of scores in the fourth quarter to go ahead 20-17 to take the lead with 3:45 remaining in the game.

A John Roath to Ashler Linn 12-yard touchdown pass (the second touchdown pass of the game for the pair) with 48 seconds to play put the Vikings ahead for the final time. The winning score was set up when the Vikings’ special teams partially blocked a punt with 1:30 to play.

Jean-Luc Noison had a big second half interception to aid the Vikings’ cause. Da’son Harris added a one-yard touchdown run in the game and Jay Hanson had a 38-yard field goal.
