A busy two days of high school football is on tap in DeKalb County on Thursday and Friday with 10 games involving 12 DCSD football programs taking the field for Week 3 of the season.
All five DeKalb stadiums are hosting single games 7:00 pm on Thursday all of which involve just one DeKalb team hosting out of region opponents.
The Class 2A No. 8 ranked Columbia Eagles (2-0) swoop into Avondale Stadium for the second consecutive week as they host the Washington Bulldogs (0-2). Columbia did not have a letdown after their opening week 13-10 upset of Class 7A Camden County by following up with a 26-21 victory over Woodland-Stockbridge (1-1). The Eagles jumped out to a 26-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Washington has lost 14-12 to Banneker and 17-6 to Douglass to open the season 0-2.
Lakeside (2-0) is also one of seven undefeated DeKalb clubs and hosts Forest Park (0-1) at Adams Stadium on Friday night. The Vikings are 2-0 for the first time since 2005 following wins of 20-6 over Berkmar and 30-6 over Northview. Forest Park fell 50-19 to Morrow in its season opener.
Other games on Thursday include Lithonia (0-2) vs. Landmark Christian (1-1) at Godfrey Stadium, Southwest DeKalb (0-2) vs. Decatur (1-1) at Hallford Stadium and Redan (1-1) vs. Tri-Cities (0-20 at North DeKalb Stadium.
Friday night action in DeKalb features a pair of all-DeKalb matchups as Chamblee (1-0) defends its Golden Spike against the Dunwoody Wildcats (1-0) in the annual rivalry at 7:30 pm at North DeKalb. Dunwoody is coming off a bye week following a season opening 21-9 win over North Springs. Chamblee cruised to a 59-0 win over Towers in its opener last week at North DeKalb.
Arabia Mountain (1-1) and Stephenson (0-1) lock up at Hallford Stadium on Friday at 8:00 pm following the Clarkston (0-1)/Therrell (1-0) game which starts at 5:15 pm. Arabia Mountain rebounded from a tough 12-6 loss to Maynard Jackson to upend Heritage of Conyers 34-6 to even their record. Stephenson dropped a tough 23-13 game to Dutchtown on the opening weekend.
Towers (0-2) goes for its first win on Friday as the Titans host BEST Academy of Atlanta (0-1) at 7:30 pm at Avondale Stadium. McNair (0-2) lost a tough 21-20 decision to Druid Hills last week and take on North Clayton (1-1) at Godfrey Stadium. North Clayton nipped KIPP Academy 21-20 to even its mark at 1-1.
A big Top 10 matchup is set for Westlake on Friday as the Class 3A No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints (1-0) take on the Class 7A No. 9 ranked Lions (1-1). Cedar Grove had its game against Miami Edison cancelled last week by the Florida school and owns a 30-14 road win over Bainbridge. Westlake knocked off Class 3A No. 6 ranked Crisp County 47-7 last Friday night in a bounce back win.
Other away games include Cross Keys (0-1) at Flint River Academy (0-2), Druid Hills (1-0) at Berkmar (1-1), M.L. King (0-2) at Locust Grove (0-1), Miller Grove (1-1) vs. Douglass (1-1) and Stone Mountain (0-2) at Discovery (0-2). Tucker which improved to 2-0 on the season is off this week.
