A clean sweep of Clarkston and Tucker at Clarkston on Thursday night pushed the Lakeside Lady Vikings to an impressive 7-0 start on the season.
The Vikings were sharp in the serving part of the match along with some strong play up front to sweep Clarkston 2-0 (25-3, 25-4) to open the tri-match.
Hadley Brook’s kill gave Lakeside a 4-3 lead and Ty Kleffner went back to serve. Kleffner had a couple of aces to go with three winners as Lakeside reeled off 21 consecutive points on her serve to close out the game. The play of Brook and Lily Kate Kenyon up front with assists from Anna Kenyon contributed to the big run to close out the set.
Lakeside closed out the match with a 25-4 win in the second set as they pulled away after Clarkston cut the lead to 4-2 on a pair of blocks at the net by Anaiyah Sims.
Lily Kate Kenyon went to the service line and including an ace the Vikings reeled off nine consecutive points to extend the lead to 14-2 before Clarkston stopped the run at 14-3.
Zoie Bardwell served for the last five points of the match to close out the win 2-4 as Lakeside scored on 22 of 26 serves.
Lakeside 2, Tucker 0
The Vikings made it seven consecutive wins to open the 2022 season with its 2-0 (25-10, 25-4) victory over the Tucker Lady Tigers in the second match at Clarkston.
Lakeside ran out to a 16-4 lead in the opening set after jumping to a quick 4-0 advantage as Bardwell got a kill off a set by Anna Kenyon to start the scoring.
A service winner by Tucker’s Lia Carvalho made it 7-4 in favor of the Vikings before Hadley Brook’s kill put her on the service line for the Vikings.
Brook won eight points on her serve including an ace as the lead climbed to 16-4.

Tucker won three points behind the serving of Monserrat Quiroz to close the gap to 16-7. Lakeside would go up 24-10 as Bardwell added two more kills before a shot went out to stop put off the Vikings closing out the set.
A Tucker serve was out to give Lakeside the set at 25-10.
The second set began with a 12-0 run by Lakeside behind the serving of Anna Kenyon that included a pair of winners and an ace to go with her own nice touch shot to an open spot on the Tucker side of the court and another kill by Lily Kate Kenyon.
Tucker scored three points in a row before Brook powered a kill into the right corner on the Tucker side of the court that would start an 11-0 run for the Vikings.
Kleffner went to work behind the service line again for Lakeside adding two more aces along the way in addition to the play up front by her teammates.
Brook had a put away in the run to go with a nice set by Anna Kenyon to Julia Chilton and a tandem block at the net by Chilton and Brook to make it 24-3.
Tucker picked up a point to make it 24-4 but the Tigers’ next serve went out giving the match point to Lakeside.

Tucker 2, Clarkston 1
Tucker rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the third set tiebreaker to take the set 15-13 to clinch the 2-1 (25-22, 20-25, 15-13) victory over the host Clarkston Angoras in the final match of the night.
Clarkston had knotted the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 second set win to force the third set tiebreaker. The Angoras tied the set at 2-2 on a shot by Anaiyah Sims that glanced off a Tucker blocker for the point.
Tucker halted a 6-0 run by Clarkston as Kristan Simmons put a shot away. Clarkston bounced back to take a 9-4 advantage before Tucker rallied to tie the game at 10-10 on a service winner by Lia Carvalho. Tucker took a brief 11-10 lead on a kill by Simmons.
A double touch called on Clarkston put Tucker ahead for good at 12-11 and Kyleen Downs added to the lead with a pair of winners to make it 14-11 and match point.
Tucker got a net violation to give Clarkston the service down 14-13. The serve would not get over the net giving Tucker the 15-13 tiebreaker win.
Tucker won the opening set 25-22 after a player position violation on the Clarkston broke a 22-22 tie. Stephanie Sanchez served out the match on the final two points including an ace. Clarkston had rallied from down 22-18 to knot the set at 22-22 before the violation.
Clarkston jumped out 14-4 in the second set behind the play of Anaiyah Sims and Azaria Miller before Tucker began to rally. The Tigers closed the gap to 21-20 before a net violation gave the momentum back to Clarkston.
The Angoras would win three consecutive points including a kill by Sims to close out the 25-20 win and even the match.
Tucker (1-5-1) picked up its first win of the season while Clarkston dropped to 0-4-1 on the season.
