The Dunwoody Wildcats (Class 7A) and Tucker Tiges (Class 6A) split their opening playoff series doubleheaders but fell in their win or go home third games on Thursday.

Dunwoody broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run outburst to go up 7-3. Wes Giles and Cooper Kuriger both drove in runs in the inning which also aided by a pair of Alpharetta errors.

Alpharetta (15-16) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Wildcats (17-13) clawed their way back to tie the game at 3-3 in the third inning. Nathan Pettit’s RBI double along with a key single by Giles knotted the game at 3-3.

Blake Frost picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats as he went the final two innings in relief of starter Connor Haynes who went the first four innings and struck out 5.

Owen Anchors got the Wildcats off to a quick start in the second game with a three-run triple in the top of the first inning and then scored on a wild pitch to put Dunwoody up 4-0.

Connor Haynes and J. Norris Neal followed up a Taylor Stephens double with one-out, RBI singles to put Dunwoody up 6-1.

Alpharetta cut the deficit in half via a two-run homer by Cooper Mendlinger in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 6-3 margin.

Shane Soderburg exited the mound for Dunwoody after six solid innings and 6-3 lead. The win would not come his way however as Alpharetta struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 7-6 victory and tie the series at 1-1.

Three walks and two hit batters contributed to the big four-run inning for Alpharetta as they forged into a 6-6 tie.

Logan Racine hit a bases-loaded single up the middle to score the winning run for Alpharetta.

Alpharetta completed its comeback from a 1-0 deficit in the series as a late Dunwoody rally fell short in the 8-6 decision in the final game of the series.
