A sweep of the two doubles matches jumpstarted a 4-1 Class 7A boys state tennis playoff victory by the Dunwoody Wildcats over Woodstock at Dunwoody on Tuesday.

Dunwoody’s No. 1 doubles team of Sam Woodrow and Preston Files strung together victories in 10 consecutive games to sweep their two sets against Woodstock’s Stan Gurma and Dodge Mullen in a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The pair were leading 2-1 in the opening set when they went on their 10-game run to close out the match.

The No. 2 doubles team of Andrew Munn and Jake Callahan also swept their match winning 6-2, 6-1 over Woodstock’s Davis Hatiburton and Matthew Gurt. The duo jumped out in front 4-1 on the way to the 6-2 first set victory and used a 5-0 start in the second set on the way to win.

Woodstock’s Ben Onufrock closed the gap to 2-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dunwoody’s Mark Romano while a battle of long points waged the next court over at No. 2 singles.

Dunwoody’s Bobby Kitchin was down a break to Woodstock’s Aaron Wood at 4-5 before climbing up the ladder to take the first set 7-5. He went on to win the second set 6-3 to seal the match for himself and his team.

Dunwoody’s Ayden Mamaghani finished off a Dunwoody win at No. 3 singles taking down Woodstock’s Brad Bohanan 6-1, 6-2 for the final of 4-1.

Dunwoody will play host to North Paulding, a 3-1 winner over Camden County in the first round, in the second round with the day and time to be announced at a later date.

CLASS 4A PLAYOFFS
Arabia Mountain traveled to Madison County for a Class 4A boys/girls’ doubleheader only to have their seasons come to a close with a pair of losses. Madison County won the girls’ match 5-0 and also took a 5-0 win in the boys’.
