The Lakeside Lady Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 early lead on the way to an 8-3 victory over South Effingham in a first round Class 6A girls’ state playoff game at Adams Stadium on Thursday night.

Lakeside (13-3) outshot South Effingham (11-6) 21-5 in the first half as they built a 6-1 advantage going into the half.

Alexis Spetseris got Lakeside on the board first as she got a pass from Caitlin Chalker for a score from out front with 35:46 to play in the first half. Chalker made it 2-0 off a corner kick from Haley Davis three minutes later.

Eleanor McLaren scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute to make it 4-0 with 27:11 remaining in the half before Taylor Richards got South Effingham on the scoreboard at the 26:31 mark to cut it to 4-1.

McLaren completed the hat trick at the 23:52 mark to push the lead out to 5-1 and Charisse Miller took a pass from Davis to send the Vikings into the half up 6-1.

Miller completed the second hat trick of the night scoring a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 8-1.

Anna Dorch scored two goals in the final 17 minutes to close the gap to the 8-3 final score.

Lakeside goes on the road next Wednesday to take on No. 3 ranked Lassiter which defeated Lanier 5-0 in the opening round.

In other Class 6A girls’ action involving a DeKalb team, Tucker fell 5-0 to No. 8 Glynn Academy in Brunswick on Thursday. The Lady Tigers (9-9) battled to a 0-0 halftime score with Glynn (14-2).

A red card in the second forced Tucker to play a man down and Glynn took advantage with five goals to move on to the second round of the state playoffs.
