Sharon Richard puts in a lot of extra work to keep things in order for Arabia Mountain High School Athletics and was rewarded at the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association Conference in Savannah with a pair Athletic Director of the Year Awards.
Richard was announced as the Class 4A Athletic Director of the Year for her hard work in a ceremony held today in Savannah.
She was also named the Region 6-4A AD of the Year to join three more hardworking DeKalb Athletic Directors to receive recognition for their work that is basically year-round.
Joining Richard with Region Athletic Director of the Year recognition were Martin Luther King Jr.’s Wendy Mapp (5-5A), McNair’s Marcus Salter (6-2A) and Redan’s Charlcye Henderson (5-3A).
The individual school Athletic Directors work with the DeKalb County Schools Central Office Athletics Department on eligibility as well as other matters as it concerns their individual schools throughout the year. This can include transportation, administrative coverage at sporting events and ordering supplies/equipment as needed among many other duties.
They also attend region meetings and help organize region events throughout the year.
DeKalb County Schools Athletic Director James Jackson quoted a Daily Positive credited to Jon Gordon in expressing his gratitude and thanks to these individual schools Athletic Directors for their accomplishments, “Your greatness as a leader will not be determined by how much power you accumulate. It will be determined by how much you serve and sacrifice for others to help them become great.”
“These and all of our school Athletic Directors do serve and sacrifice to help the coaches and student athletes of their schools to be the best they can be,” said Jackson.
