Southwest DeKalb hit the .500 mark on the season at 4-4 with a strong 2-0 effort as one of four DeKalb teams to put up perfect records during Week 3 baseball action.
Coach Tyrus Taylor’s Panthers erupted for 23 runs in two games while taking care of Newton County (12-7) Feb. 28 and Mays (11-0) March 1.
Surging Lakeside joined three other local squads that posted perfect records in baseball action from last week. Coach Brian Granger’s Vikings romped to a 4-0 showing, besting Morrow (10-0) Feb. 28, Morrow (14-0) March 2, Morrow (11-4) March 4 and Chamblee (10-9) March 5. Lakeside has now won seven in a row in improving to 8-3 overall, with two of the losses coming by one run.
Tucker likewise continued to impress, knocking off two Gwinnett County private schools in a 2-0 showing. Coach Bobby Link’s Tigers picked up triumphs over Providence (8-4) March 2 and GAC (3-2) March 3 to move to 6-3 overall on the year.
Lithonia completed the list of undefeated teams from last week with a 1-0 mark. Coach Marcus Benton’s Bulldogs out-slugged the McNair Mustangs by a 10-6 margin March 4 to improve to 1-2 in the record category.
Arabia Mountain picked up a shutout victory as sophomore Dewayne Shealey (3 IP; 1 HA; 2 SO; 2 BB) and freshman Bryce Willingham (1 IP; 2 HA; 1 SO) teamed up to blank Towers from the pitching mound in a 12-0 victory for Arabia Mountain Feb. 28. Senior Devin Tallington (2-2; 3 RS; 3 RBI; 1 HR), senior Casey Winfrey (2-3; 4 RBI; 2 RS; 2 2B) and junior Colin Cofield (2-3; 1 RBI; 4 SB) shined at the plate for the Rams in the triumph.
Junior Noah Harkins tossed a three-hitter in Chamblee’s 4-0 decision over Paideia March 1, striking out eight in going the full seven innings.
Junior Laprick Grissom (3 IP; 4 SO; 2 BB; 2 HA) went the distance on the mound for Columbia in a 17-0 romp over Cedar Grove March 2. Freshman Romando Craddick (2-3; 4 RBI; 2 RS; 2 SB) led the offense.
