2022 DCSD MS GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT BRACKETS

Champion Lady Chargers are the only undefeated team in the DCSD middle school basketball season.

Champion Lady Chargers are the only undefeated team in the DCSD middle school basketball season.

The Champion Lady Chargers won their final game of the season to finish at 12-0 and as the only undefeated team in the DCSD Middle School Basketball season.

The Chargers (12-0, 5-0) wrapped up the season with a 61-8 over the Stone Mountain Pirates (1-11, 0-5) during action last Wednesday. Lauren Chavis (14 points, 9 steals, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Charmaine Owens (12 points, 6 assists) aided the victory for the 12-0 season.

Miller Grove 35, Lithonia 13
The Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (11-2, 6-2) wrapped up their season with a pair of victories last week including the final victory of the regular season 35-13 over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (2-10, 0-7). Madison Nettles hit for 14 points and Kaeslyn Benjamin added 8 in the win. Miller Grove also picked up a big win by knocking off the previously undefeated Chapel Hill Lady Panthers in an exciting 46-44 game earlier in the week. Bailee Canty hit for 24 points to lead the way while Kaeslyn Benjamin and Liyah Croxton put up 8 points each. Miller Grove heads into Wednesday’s first round of the county tournament as the No. 2 seed from Region 3.

Chapel Hill 48, Bethune 19
Chapel Hill (12-1, 8-0) bounced back from the loss earlier in the week to Miller Grove to knock off Region 4 foe Bethune Lions (7-6, 6-2) 48-19. Deasia Kelly (16 points, 11 steals, 3 assists), Kendall Campbell (15 points, 6 steals, 6 rebounds) and McKenzie Copeland (11 points, 4 steals, 2 assists) led the Chapel Hill charge. Chapel Hill goes into the county tournament as a No. 1 seed with the Region 4 title in hand.

Redan 33, Tucker 23
Redan ended the season winning both its games last week as the Lady Raiders (8-4, 4-3) finished off the Region 1 Tucker Lady Tigers (4-9, 3-5) 33-23 to cap the two-win week. Londyn Felder (10 points, 2 assists), Miyah Campbell (10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) and Kean Wilder (6 points, 6 rebounds) were part of a balance attack for the Raiders. Kassidy Manning had a game-high 17 points to lead Tucker. Kaylan Whitfield (13 points, 3 steals) fueled the Raiders to a 35-14 non-region win over the McNair Lady Mustangs (2-11, 2-6).

Stephenson 38, Henderson 17
The Stephenson Lady Jaguars (10-3, 4-2) wrapped up their season with a 38-17 non-region win over the Henderson Lady Cougars (4-8, 3-5). Kamryn Larkin hit for 12 points and Sarah Okorowanta added 8. Stephenson lost its mid-week non-region contest 38-19 to Salem (10-1, 6-0). Cyncere Sims had 8 points to top the scoring for Stephenson.

Freedom 34, Lithonia 20
Freedom secured a spot in the county tournament as the No. 4 seed out of Region 3 via a 34-20 victory over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs (2-10, 0-7). Wadole Mila hit for 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while Grace Kasongo (9 points, 5 rebounds) and Destiny Swint (8 points, 4 assists) contributed to the win. Freedom dropped its final regular season game to Region 3 champ Salem (10-1, 6-0) 30-16.

Columbia 39, Cedar Grove 12
A 39-12 Region 4 victory over the Cedar Grove Lady Saints (1-12, 0-8) by the Columbia Lady Eagles (7-6, 4-4) gave the Eagles a victory heading into this week’s county tournament on Wednesday. Angel Rice hit for 14 points and Tamicah Pate added 12 for the winners.

Druid Hills 19, Sequoyah 11
Druid Hills last game of the regular season ended in a 19-11 win over the Sequoyah Lady Braves (0-12, 0-9) by the Lady Dragons (3-7, 1-3). Honee Haynes led Druid Hills with 11 points. Sequoyah got 6 points and 4 steals from Khloe Richmond.

BOYS RECAPS
The Henderson Cougars finished the last week of the regular season with a pair of wins heading into Wednesday’s opening round of the DCSD Middle School Basketball Tournament.

Henderson (9-4, 5-3) opened the week with a 46-29 Region 1 win over the Peachtree Patriots (4-9, 2-6) on Wednesday. Sam Shapiro had 16 points and Zayd Muhammad added 14 points for the winners. Emerson Mitchell (11 points) and Jack Lamb (8 points) were the leading scorers for Peachtree. Henderson closed out the regular season with a 54-42 non-region win over the Stephenson Jaguars (4-9, 1-5). Cornelius Redo had a game-high 27 points to lead Henderson and Zayd Muhammad added 17.

Chapel Hill 40, Bethune 25
A 40-25 Region 4 win over the Bethune Lions (7-6, 4-4) sealed the No. 3 seed for the Chapel Hill Panthers (8-5, 4-4) heading into this week’s county tournament. Harlim Perine (12 points, 4 rebounds) was on point for the Panthers. Perine put together a 16-point, 7-assists and 4-steals performance in a 45-27 win over Miller Grove (5-8, 3-5) earlier in the week.

Chamblee 41, Peachtree 38
The Chamblee Bulldogs (11-2, 6-2) closed out their final week of the regular season with a pair of wins including a 41-38 win over the Peachtree Patriots. Peachtree had two players in double figures including Jack Abbot (13 points) and Emerson Mitchell (10 points). Chamblee picked up a big win earlier in the week by knocking off previously undefeated Tucker (12-1, 7-1) 43-42. Jaydon Avery and Darrell Dickens were standouts for the Bulldogs.

Champion 36, Druid Hills 31
The Champion Chargers (6-7, 5-1) turned around their season over the past two weeks winning four consecutive games including the season finale 36-31 win over Region 2 foe and No. 1 seeded Druid Hills Dragons (9-4, 5-1) on Saturday. Jacoby Huff (13 points) and Jankeir Caines (11 points) along with an aggressive defense led the way for Champion. Champion picked up another Region 2 win earlier in the week 57-30 over the Stone Mountain Pirates. Jacoby Huff was the leader on offense and defense hitting for 12 points. Stone Mountain got 13 points from Jhalil Phelps and Ishmel Thompson had a productive day with 5 points, 5 blocked shots, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Stone Mountain 59, Sequoyah 8
Stone Mountain (3-10, 1-5) wrapped up its season with a 59-8 non-region win over the Sequoyah Braves (0-12, 0-8). Jhalil Phelps led the scoring with 13 points and Ishmel Thompson added 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks and 5 steals.

Tucker 46, Redan 39
The Region 1 champs Tucker Tigers (12-1, 7-1) met Region 3 champs Redan Raiders (10-2, 7-0) and came away with a 46-39 victory in both teams’ season finale. Jakobe Williams (25 points, 8 assists, 3 steals) was the leader for the Tigers on the night.

Redan 51, McNair 23
Noah Milton (13 points, 5 assists) and Amare Medhin (10 points) put the Redan Raiders (10-2, 7-0) on the road to a 51-23 win over the McNair Mustangs (1-12, 0-8) earlier last week.

Freedom 59, Salem 55
The Freedom Rams (6-7, 4-4) picked up a big Region 3 59-55 win over the Salem Lions (2-10, 1-6) led by King Hernandez (28 points, 5 rebounds), Keshawn George (17 points, 5 assists) and Wali Price (9 points, 9 rebounds). Emontae Gourdine led Salem with 16 points and 2 assists. Freedom fell in a tough 39-37 battle with Lithonia (4-9, 4-4) earlier in the week. King Hernandez was again the leader as he went for 18 points.

Columbia 39, Cedar Grove 36.
The Columbia Eagles (11-2, 6-2) evened the season series with the Cedar Grove Saints (11-2, 6-2) with a 39-36 win to pull even at the top of the Region 4 standings. Jashawn Thompson led three scorers in double figures for the Eagles with 16 points followed by Brandon Bigsby with 12 and Bryson Bigsby with 11. Emanuel Green had 18 points and 6 rebounds and Reginal Harris added 14 points and 7 steals for the Saints.

Cedar Grove 43, McNair 17
Cedar Grove secured a spot at the top of the Region 4 standings with a regular season ending 43-17 win over Region 4 foe McNair. Nahzi Harris and Reginald Harris both finished with 13 points each while D’Corey Holt added 8 points and 5 steals.
