The Dunwoody Wildcats 2021 flag football season came to an end on Thursday night in another defensive struggle won 6-0 by the visiting Greenbrier Wolfpack in the Division 2 quarterfinals.
Greenbrier (12-3) scored with three minutes to go in the first half to break a 0-0 tie. The Wolfpack had driven 62 yards to the Dunwoody 5 and were facing a fourth and goal after a big defensive play by the Wildcats on third and goal at the four.
Dunwoody got some pressure on the Greenbrier quarterback who threw to the back of the endzone where the receiver hauled in the pass for the touchdown. The pass for the PAT went incomplete to make it a 6-0 game.
Neither team could get much going in the second half with only a Greenbrier drive aided by a pass interference call on Dunwoody got to the Wildcat’s 23. Dunwoody held firm and forced a turnover on downs.
Greenbrier forced a Dunwoody punt with 3:45 to play, but Dunwoody forced a punt with 1:30 remaining and took over on their own 25 with 59 seconds to play.
A third and 11 pass with 18 seconds to play was intercepted by Greenbrier to seal the game.
Dunwoody finishes 11-4-1 on the season with an area title and a first ever appearance in the quarterfinals. Greenbrier moves on the semifinals for the second consecutive season.
