Division 2 Area 5 champion Dunwoody leads five DeKalb teams into the 2021 Girls’ Flag Football State Playoffs on Tuesday, November 30.
Dunwoody (9-3-1) is making its second consecutive foray into the state playoffs and with an Area 5 title in tow gets to host three other teams for the opening two rounds at Dunwoody High School. Dunwoody’s inaugural flag football season in 2020 ended with a first-round playoff loss to Heritage-Conyers.
Northside, Warner Robins, (5-4), the Area 1 No. 3 seed, takes on Area 3 No. 2 seed Eagle’s Landing (7-6) at 5:00 pm at Dunwoody. The Wildcats follow taking on Area 7 No. 4 seed Salem (5-5) at 6:00 pm. The winners advance to the second round and would play at 7:00 pm for the opportunity to advance to the third round on Thursday (December 2).
The Lakeside Vikings (7-4-1) finished as the Area 5 runners-up to Dunwoody and go on the road to McDonough for their first round match up against Area 7 No. 3 seed Woodland, Cartersville, (2-3-1) at 5:00 pm. McDonough (8-1), the Area 3 No. 1 seed, follows at 6:00 pm against Area 1 No. 4 seed Dooly County (6-4). The winners advance to the second round and would play at 7:00 pm for the opportunity to advance to the third round on Thursday (December 2). Lakeside makes it first playoff appearance in its second season as a program.
The Lithonia Bulldogs and Tucker Tigers also in Area 5 both achieved playoff berths in their inaugural seasons.
As the No. 3 seed from Area 5, the Lithonia Bulldogs (7-6) travel to Dodge County to face off with Rockdale County (11-1), the Area 7 No. 2 seed, at 4:30 pm. Host Dodge County (10-1), the Area 4 No. 1 seed, follows at 5:45 to take on Area 3 No. 4 seed Locust Grove (5-4). The winners advance to the second round and would play at 7:00 pm for the opportunity to advance to the third round on Thursday (December 2).
Area 5 No. 4 seeds Tucker Tigers (4-11) heads out I-20 East to Conyers to take on Area 7 No. 1 seed Heritage (8-1) at 6:30 pm. That game follows the 5:30 pm matchup of Area 1 No. 2 seed Perry (5-3) against Area 3 No. 3 seed Luella (5-4). The winners advance to the second round and would play at 7:30 pm for the opportunity to advance to the third round on Thursday (December 2).
In Class A-4A the Columbia Eagles (8-2) earned a No. 2 seed from Area 8 and go on the road to St. Vincent’s (Savannah) who is hosting the two opening rounds on Tuesday. The Eagles face off with Area 6 No. 3 seed Mary Persons (10-4) in the opener at 4:30 pm. St. Vincent’s (9-1), the Area 2 No. 1 seed, takes on Area 4 No. 4 seed Kendrick (4-4). The winners advance to the second round and would play at 7:30 pm for the opportunity to advance to the third round on Thursday (December 2). Columbia is another first year program in the state playoffs from DeKalb.
