The DeKalb Silver Streaks hosted the Adapted Sports Handball State Tournament last weekend at the DeKalb School of the Arts Elementary School and finished as the Georgia State runners-up.
A 4-2 regular season finish put the Silver Streaks in as the No. 2 seed and played the West Georgia Wolverines (2-3) in the state semifinals and came away with their third win over the Wolverines with a 9-4 victory to advance to the championship round against Houston.
Houston had defeated the Clayton Eagles in its semifinal match and followed up with a 9-2 win over the Silver Streaks to claim the state championship.
Houston owned wins of 7-6 and 12-6 over the Silver Streaks which accounted for all the DeKalb team’s regular season losses.
DeKalb defeated Clayton 11-7 and 14-10 during the season and swept West Georgia 12-2 and 15-5.
The Silver Streaks team roster includes Jamal St. Rose (Stephenson High), Jamell Boston (Cedar Grove Middle), Joe Patterson (Laurel Ridge Elementary), Robert Edwards (Towers High), Noah Yanis (Druid Hills Middle), Corey Swain (Heritage High), Najee Smothers (Couch Middle) and Cameron Smothers (Center High).
The team is coached by Delton and Everett Shoats and Lisa Patterson serves as program coordinator and coach.
