The DeKalb County high school volleyball season came to an end on Saturday (Oct. 23) as Chamblee and Lakeside both fell in the Sweet 16 Round of their respective state playoffs.
Chamblee traveled to Woodward Academy in the Class 5A playoffs and dropped a hard-fought four-set match to the highly ranked War Eagles.
The Bulldogs won the opening set of the match to go up 1-0 before Woodward bounced back to win the second set 25-12 and the third 25-16.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair that was tied at 13-13 and 22-22 as it came down to the wire. The two teams were tied at 24-24 before Woodward picked up the next two points to win the set and match with a 26-24 win.
Chamblee finished the season at 24-16 overall and as the Region 5-5A runners-up. Woodward improved to 32-9 while advancing to the Elite 8.
A historic season for the Lakeside Vikings came to an end on their home floor as Kennesaw Mountain swept the Class 6A Sweet 16 matchup 3-0 (35-18, 25-14, 25-13).
Lakeside finished the season with a program best record of 34-5-1 and as the Region 4-6A champions.
