2021 DCSD Country Cross Country Girls Champions -- Lakeside Lady Vikings

2021 DCSD Country Cross Country Girls Champions — Lakeside Lady Vikings

The 19th girls’ DeKalb County Cross Country Championships girls’ title was not easy for the Lakeside Vikings as the top four teams were within 19 points of each other.

Since the 2010 season either Lakeside (5) or Dunwoody (7) has won the title with the other in second. This year Lakeside dethroned Dunwoody 47-56 for the Vikings’ third title in four seasons with Druid Hills (61) in third and Chamblee (66) in fourth.

Lakeside just two Top 10 finishers in Ellie Skelton (21:13.31, 4th) and Haley Davis (21:57.39, 7th) compared to three each for Druid Hills and Dunwoody.

The big difference was the Vikings pushed five across from 11th to 15th to capture the victory. The key runners in that group were Tristan Linscott (22:46.49) in 11th, Savannah Spires (22:50.80) in 12th and Abigail McHoul (23:01.75) in 13th. Aiding the cause by pushing other runners even further back were Kate Van Horn (23:06.62) in 14th and Olivia Rotolo (23:08.85) in 15th as the group finished in a fairly close pack.

Dunwoody’s charge was led by Maggie Coxen (21:51.36) and Lucy Neumann (21:52.29) who finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. Teammate Kate Bacon (22:11.08) crossed in eighth.

The Druid Hills duo of Harley Martz (20:42.64) and Katie Blount (21:04.65) finished two-three in the individual race to aid the Red Devils’ cause along with ninth place finisher Sophia Shepherd (22:19.56).

Chamblee’s fourth place finish was keyed by Olivia Tabron’s gold medal performance clocking a DeKalb season’s best time of 20:11.85. Teammate Talley Pendleton (22:38.29) grabbed a Top 10 finish crossing the line in 10th overall.

Tabron was the first Chamblee girls’ champion in 14 seasons dating back to 2007 when Emily Reese completed a back-to-back title run for the Bulldogs. Reese holds the girls’ record in the county championships with a time of 17:58 in 2006. She ran a 17:59 in 2007 as the only two sub 18 times in the history of the meet.
