Elijah Morgan and Royce Tolbert accounted for three touchdowns apiece to lead the Columbia Eagles to a 57-0 Region 6-2A win over the McNair Mustangs at Avondale Stadium on Thursday night.
Morgan through a jump ball into the end zone to a leading Jadan Baugh for 17 yards to get the Eagles on the board with 4:04 left in the first quarter. The 6-0 lead increased to 14-0 with 1:30 left in the half when Tolbert finished off a drive with a one-yard run into the end zone and added the two-point conversion.
Tolbert would add touchdown runs of 42 yards and four yards in the second half. The senior had two touchdowns called back due to holding calls on Columbia on punt returns of 80 and 45 yards. Tolbert finished the night with seven carries for 127 yards and the three touchdowns.
Morgan added a shovel pass to Roland Edwin that went 47 yards and a 31-yard touchdown pass to Baugh in the second half. Morgan wrapped up the night eight of 13 passing for 121 yards and the three touchdowns.
Other scores cam on a five-yard run by Lamaze Williams (also added the two-point conversion) and a blocked punt recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by Eric Stinson with Williams again adding the two-point conversion.
The Eagles defense stifled the Mustangs all night allowing them into Eagle territory just twice, the last time on the next to last play of game as Semerian Williams got around the right corner for a 30-yard game. The Eagles defense was in the Mustangs backfield for 16 tackles for a loss on the night while allowing just 30 yards rushing and 10 passing.
Columbia improved to 6-1 on the season and remained at the top of the 6-2A standings at 5-0 just ahead of South Atlanta (5-1, 4-0) which defeated Towers (2-4, 2-2) 55-20 at Lakewood on Thursday night. McNair is now 0-6 on the season.
