The rivalry between Dunwoody and Chamblee athletic teams took to the volleyball court at Chamblee with Dunwoody pulling out a tight victory over Chamblee on the way to sweeping the tri-match.

Dunwoody and Chamblee opened the tri-match as Tucker waited to play the final two matches of the night.

Chamblee jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening game against Dunwoody breaking a 4-4 tie as Sammie Hubbard went to the service line and helped the Lady Bulldogs win six straight points. Nathalie Tsai had nice touch shot into an opening in the Dunwoody defense and Vanessa Namer took an assist from Tsai for a kill in the run.

Following a timeout, Dunwoody began to slowly climb back into the game behind some big assists by Morgan Speice and kills by Anna Kate Little. The pair’s third team up in a span of a 14-8 run led to Little coming from the left side to put the ball away to knot the game at 18-18.

Chamblee took a 24-23 lead as a Dunwoody serve went into the net, but the Lady Wildcats benefitted from a Bulldog serve into the net and a kill by Patricia Ruan to win the final three points to secure a 26-24 win in the opening game.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 5-4 in the second game as the Dunwoody momentum seemed to carry over into next part of the match. Namer pulled up on a set and flipped the ball into an open portion on the Dunwoody side of the net to tie the game at 5-5.

Hubbard went to serve again hitting some winners as Chamblee scored seven straight points to flip the score to an 11-5 advantage. As the game went along the Lady Bulldogs were holding a 23-19 lead. Mattie Kossask and Emma Hall both made plays to close out a 25-19 win to even the match at one game apiece.

The deciding match was a back-and-forth affair as the two teams battled to a 12-12 tie before Dunwoody’s Lauren Garber hit a winner to put the Wildcats into the lead at 13-12. Dunwoody got to match point at 14-12 when Chamblee got a block at the by Nyla Lawrence and Naa Adua Annan to make it 14-13.

The two teams are tied at 1-1 in their series this season with a rubber match set for Dunwoody on October 5.

Dunwoody’s Speice and Little teamed up to close out the match with Speice’s assist setting up Little for the game winning kill for a 15-13 third set win.

Tucker moved onto the court to take on Dunwoody next only to have the Lady Wildcats jump out to a 10-1 lead on the way to a 25-11 decision in the first game of the match.

Lauren Garber served Dunwoody to 10 straight points to open the second game on the way to a 25-7 win and a sweep of the Lady Tigers. Dunwoody improved to 10-5 on the season with the two wins.

The last match of the day had the host Chamblee Lady Bulldogs taking on Tucker and coming away with a 2-0 sweep. Chamblee’s Ana Birukuva played a big role in a first game 25-8 win scoring with power and touch along the way. She then served out the final four points of the game to secure the win via a pair of winners and an ace.

Chamblee took the second game 25-11 to complete the win. Chamblee is now 9-5 on the season while Tucker fell to 6-7.

The junior varsity teams played alongside the varsity with Dunwoody also claiming wins over Chamblee and Tucker. The Lady Wildcats’ JV won both matches 2-0. Chamblee capped JV play with a 2-0 win over Tucker to go 1-1 on the day.
