Seven track performers from Cedar Grove and Redan combined are moving on to the Class 3A State Sectional B set for Lakewood Stadium on Saturday with their performances at the recent Region 5-3A Track and Field Championships held at Greater Atlanta Christian.
The Cedar Grove Saints finished fourth in the meet while bringing home four gold medals and qualifying three participants in six events and two relay teams.
Eric Jordan topped the Saints performers with a pair of gold medals winning the 100-meter (11.18) and 200-meter (22.14) dashes. Cedar Grove also topped the field in both the 4×100 relay (42.29) and the 4×400 relay (3:25.59). Oral Ashe (400, 800) and Barry Jackson (long jump, triple jump) also qualified. Jackson picked up a silver medal in the triple jump (41-07.00).
Redan’s Jayden Hector took the 110-meter hurdles (15.95) gold and teammate Jammeel Jones finished fourth (17.34) to move on to the sectional.
Region 5-3A Girls
Redan finished fourth with 33 points and Cedar Grove was fifth with 29 points as each team qualified one individual and one relay squad for the state sectional on Saturday.
Redan’s Azaria Green took bronze in the shot put (31-05.25) and the Lady Raiders’ 4×800-meter relay (12:24.87) foursome also brought home a bronze.
Cedar Grove’s Lelah Easterly had the top performance of the meet for DeKalb with a silver medal in the high jump (5-02.00). The Lady Saints’ 4×400-meter relay team finished fourth (4:19.12) to move on to the sectional.
