Ten boys and seven girls qualified for the State Sectional Track Meet as the Dunwoody boys’ and girls’ track teams captured second place at the recent Region 7-7A Track and Field Championships at Discovery High School.
The Lady Wildcats totaled 125 points as runner-up to Archer (236) led by Janae Profit’s two gold medals in the field events. Profit won the discus (148-11.00) and shot put (46-11.00).
Claire Shelton matched Profits gold medal total by winning the 1600-meter (5:20.64) and 3200-meter (11:56.13) runs while also pulling in a bronze medal finish in the 800-meter run (2:23.49). Dunwoody also won gold in the 4×800 meter relay (9:59.01) as the team of Kate Bacon, Emma Tessler, Claire Shelton and Lucy Neumann ran to the title.
Dunwoody qualified five other performers in five other events along with the 4×400 meter relay (3rd, 4:17.18) for Saturday’s (May 8) Class 7A Sectional B at West Forsyth High School.
Class 7A Boys
The Wildcats garnered 131 points in finishing second to Archer (237) while qualifying 10 participants for Saturday’s Class 7A Sectional B.
Alon Rogow and Alexander Tate led the way as both won a gold and silver medal apiece at the Region 7-7A Championships.
Rogow won the pole vault (15-02.00) and was second in the high jump (5-10.00). Tate took gold in the 100-meter dash (11.14) and second in the 200-meter dash (22.43).
The Wildcats’ 4×100 meter relay team of Tate, Dorien McKency, Rogow and Zane Bateman took gold with a time of 43.12. The 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams both qualified fourth for state.
