A 25-6 shots on goal advantage aided Richmond Hill on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Lakeside Lady Vikings in the Class 6A girls’ soccer playoffs second round matchup at Adams Stadium on Wednesday night.

Fourteen of those shots on goal came in the second half after the teams went to break tied 1-1. It took just 57 seconds into the second for Richmond Hill to take the lead for good at 2-1 on a breakaway by Sarah Hungerford.

The pressure continued against the Lakeside defense and goalie Maya Phillips who made seven consecutive saves after the opening goal of the half.

Richmond Hill broke through with a goal by Lauren Groneck with 12:17 to play for an unneeded insurance goal to extend the lead to 3-1.

Courtney Allen scores with 9:07 left and Kiara Bermudez put another goal in on a breakaway with 3:45 remaining to close out the score for the 5-1 final.

Phillips had 16 saves in the game as she kept being challenged throughout the game by the Richmond Hill offense.

Lakeside had opened the game taking a 1-0 lead on a Haley Davis goal with an assist from Tristan Linscott less than five minutes into the game.

Richmond Hill tied the game with 23 minutes left in the first half on a goal by Ariana Page to make it 1-1 at the half.
