Dunwoody opened the season losing a 3-2 overtime match to Alpharetta in February, but clinched a berth in the Class 7A girls’ soccer playoffs Elite 8 with a 3-1 victory at North DeKalb Stadium on Monday night.

The No. 10 ranked Lady Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie in the second half with two big goals on the way to the 3-1 win over the No. 8 ranked Alpharetta Lady Raiders.

Alpharetta tied the game on a Jasmine Raines blast into the right corner of the goal from about 25 yards out with 29:56 to play.

Dunwoody answered just 36 seconds later as Lily Garrigan got behind the defense as a ball was lofted over their heads and she tucked the ball into the right corner to give the Wildcats the lead again at 2-1.

The Wildcats got an insurance goal just 3:23 later as Camryn Lampron lifted the ball over the defense and a streaking Ella Ryan beat the goalie to make it 3-1.

Goalie Ella Holland had four saves in the final 23:46, two off corner kicks, to help preserve the 3-1 lead. Holland would finish with 10 saves including the six she had in the first half as Dunwoody took the 1-0 lead.

Dunwoody led 1-0 at the half on a Julia Guild header into the goal on a corner kick from Ella Ryan with 13:15 to play in the first half.

Dunwoody moves on to face the No. 6 ranked Walton (14-3-0), a 6-0 winner over Camden County (5-2-1) on Monday. Dunwoody will host on Tuesday, May 4 at time to be announced.
