A great day for golf at the Mystery Valley Golf Course in Stone Mountain led to DeKalb County Golf Championships titles for the Dunwoody Wildcats and Tucker Lady Tigers on Tuesday.
The Wildcats came away with their 18th overall county title with a 340-365 win over the Lakeside Vikings with the Chamblee Bulldogs finishing third with a 386.
Dunwoody collected its 12th consecutive title including a tie with Arabia Mountain in 2014 led by sophomore Braeden Rice. Rice carded a 78 (40-38) over the 18 holes to claim the individual title. It was third consecutive individual title for Dunwoody and 10th in the past 12 years.
Senior Jackson Ceo was fourth (41-45—86) and junior Ross Ackaway was fifth (43-44—87) to give the Wildcats three of the Top 5 finishers. Junior Josh
Dwoskin was seventh (49-40—89) to round out the team scoring while sophomore Caden Smith (42-48-90) claimed eighth overall.
Lakeside’s second place finish was keyed by Kevin Verrill’s third place overall in the individual standings with his 84 (39-45). Freshman Aidan Tuttle finished tied for ninth with a 92 (47-45).
Chamblee junior Ethan Santucci was the Bulldogs’ leader claiming second with an even 80 (40-40).
Druid Hills junior Davis Hall claimed sixth with his 88 (43-45) and Arabia Mountain sophomore Isaiah Fleming (49-43—92) tied for ninth with Tuttle to round out the Top 10.
The pandemic and a pair of injuries took a toll on the girls’ field as only 13 took to the course and three qualifying for all 18 holes.
Tucker’s Gabriella Yulo and Sadie Coleman teamed up to give Tucker its first ever girls’ championship in the 15th annual DCSD Golf Championships. The pandemic wiped out the 2020 event and the 2008 event was rained out.
Yulo, a sophomore, shot a back-nine 55 to trail Chamblee junior Olivia Li (54) by one stroke as she made the turn. She shot a 56 (111) on the front nine while Li (115) fell off to a 61 to claim the first individual girls’ title for Tucker as well.
Coleman, a junior, finished third overall shooting a 125 (61-64).
