The No. 6 seeded Redan Lady Raiders extended their season with a thrilling last second 51-49 win on the road over No. 3 Douglass (10-7).
The two teams were tied at 49-49 with seconds when Kennedy Daniels drove to the basket. She lofted a floater that went in for the game-winning shot.
Redan (10-6) advances to the Region 5-3A semifinals against the host team Greater Atlanta Christian (8-7) at 6:00 pm. Redan picks up a state tournament berth with the win. Coach Charlcye Henderson has her second state tournament berth in three seasons at the helm.
Redan makes it now 14 DCSD teams which have already secured berths for the GHSA State Tournaments set to begin on Tuesday, February 23 (girls) and Wednesday, February 24 (boys).
The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats (3-11) had their season come to an end with a 38-31 loss to Duluth (10-8) on Monday in the Region 7-7A Tournament.
Cedar Grove (9-6) dropped a 49-37 decision to Sandy Creek (15-11) to finish their season in the first round of the Region 5-3A Tournament.

In Region 5-3A boys’ play on Tuesday Cedar Grove (5-13) travels to Greater Atlanta Christian (14-10) at 6:00 pm and Redan (6-13) goes to Rockdale County to take on Salem (16-4) at 7:00 pm. All winners advance to the semifinals at Greater Atlanta Christian on Thursday.
Region 6-2A kicks off its tournament on Tuesday featuring both Towers basketball teams. Girls’ play has Towers (7-12) traveling to Lovett (10-10) for a 5:30 pm contest while the Titans (6-11) entertain KIPP-Atlanta (9-11) at 6:00 pm.
Girls’ teams with state bids already collected include Southwest DeKalb (1 seed, 5-5A), M.L. King (2 or 3 seed, 5-5A), Lakeside (4 seed, 4-6A), Arabia Mountain (2 seed, 4-6A), Druid Hills (3 seed, 4-6A), Stephenson (4 seed, 4-6A) and Columbia (seed to be determined in 6-2A Tournament).
Boys’ teams preparing for state tournament action include Tucker (3 seed, (4-6A), Lithonia (2 seed, 5-5A), M.L. King (3 or 4 seed, 5-5A), Miller Grove (1 seed, 6-4A), Stephenson (2 seed, 6-4A) and Columbia (seed to be determined in 6-2A Tournament).
