Arabia Mountain knocked off Miller Grove 40-37 in overtime earlier in January, but the Wolverines bounced back to even the Region 6-4A boys’ basketball series with a 78-35 victory at Arabia Mountain on Friday night.
No. 8 ranked Miller Grove (9-4, 5-1) used a pair of big 11-0 runs to pull away from the No. 6 ranked Rams (6-4, 2-3) on the way to the big win.
Arabia Mountain led 8-7 early on a pull up jumper by Bryant Graves with 2:47 to play in the first quarter, but a Tyriek Boyd three-pointer started a run for the Wolverines to take a 19-10 lead into the second quarter.
David Brooks Jr. drove the lane early in the second quarter for a 21-10 advantage before a quick 6-0 run by the Rams closed the gap to 21-16 with 3:52 left in the first half on a three-pointer by Graves.
Jahmil Barber drove baseline for a basket then and then converted a layup after a Rams’ turnover on an assist from Boyd to key an 11-0 run that would put the Wolverines up 32-18 at the half.
Kevin Amponsoh opened the second half with a layup for Arabia Mountain before the Wolverines put together another 11-0 run to all but put the game away.
Marqua Owens hit for seven of the 11 points in the run with two layups and a three-pointer to extend the lead to 43-20 before Graves hit a pair of free throws following a technical on Miller Grove to break the run.
Zyair Greene hit for a pair of baskets to go with one by Barber and one by Brooks in an 8-0 run to end the quarter with Miller Grove up 53-24.
Owens opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play and Miller Grove never looked back. The fourth quarter highlights for Arabia Mountain were a pair of three-point plays by Aaron McIntyre.
Miller Grove scored 22 more points as Coach Rasul Chester cleared the bench in the fourth quarter for the final of 78-35.
Zyair Greene added to his career 1,000 points total with 19 on the night to lead the Wolverines. Jahmil Barber and Marqua Owens joined him in double figures with 10 points each.
Aaron McIntyre had a team-high 12 points to lead Arabia Mountain.

The No. 5 ranked Arabia Mountain Lady Rams improved to 11-0 overall with a 70-28 Region 6-4A girls’ basketball victory over the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines.
Lauryn Lynn scored nine points in the first quarter including six in the first three-minutes of a 9-0 to open t he game as Arabia Mountain jumped in front quickly.
Trinity Coleman and Antionette Mountain both scored a basket to close the gap to 9-4, but t he second of two three-pointers by Jordyn Ward spurred the Lady Rams to a 21-6 lead with 19 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Jalisa Mann hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to pull Miller Grove within 21-9 heading into the second quarter. Lynn would hit a three-pointer and add another basket late in the first half as Arabia Mountain took a 36-16 lead into the break.
Lynn opened the second half with a three-pointer and a layup to go with a three-pointer by Myori Pruitt to push the lead out to 44-16. Ward sent Arabia into the fourth quarter up 57-24 with a three-pointer with just over a minute to play in the third period.
A game-high 19 points for Lynn topped the scoring for Arabia Mountain. Makayla Johnson chipped in 10 points to join Lynn in double figures.
Trinity Coleman tied Jalina Robinson for team-high honors with eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Miller Grove.
