The Columbia Eagles capped a Region 6-2A school basketball sweep of the Washington Bulldogs with a convincing 77-47 boys’ victory at home on Tuesday night.
The Eagles (9-5) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back in rolling past the Bulldogs (4-12) in a cross-over region game.
Mason Lockhart completed a three-point play with 5:16 to play in the first quarter that gave the Eagles the 9-0 lead before Rapley’s two free throws with 4:26 remaining put the Bulldogs on the board.
Three baskets by Donquavius Harrison in the final 3:52 helped Columbia pull out to a 21-7 advantage before a T. Woods bucket made it 21-9 at the end of the first period.
Lockhart started a 6-0 run to open the second quarter on an assist by Kawasiki Ricks and a Ricks steal and pass to Julius Lymon for a thunderous one-handed dunk sandwiched a Ricks layup to extend the lead to 27-9 with just over a minute gone.
Harrison hit a deep three-pointer from the corner to help send Columbia into the half up 42-21 as he Eagles matched their first quarter output of 21.
Leading 47-28 with 5:05 left in the third quarter Columbia put together a 13-0 run that including five points (1 three) by Ricks, two baskets by Lockhart and back-to-back buckets by Mekhi Turner to make it a 60-28 margin at the 2:34 mark.
Lockhart’s basket just before the third period ended had the Eagles up 65-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Washington got no closer than 29 the rest of the way at 71-42 on a basket by Rapley with 2:53 to play.
Mason Lockhart finished with 19 points and six rebounds to lead the Eagles followed by Harrison with 13 and Ricks with 11.
Rapley led Washington and all scorers with 25 points and he was joined in double figures by T. Woods with 11.

Columbia opened the night running away with the girls’ contest 72-5 over Washington allowing just one basket and three free throws in the game to the undermanned Lady Bulldogs.
Kamiya Kennedy scored eight points, including the first five of the game as Columbia jumped out to a 18-0 lead after one quarter of play. India Terrell, who joined the 1,000 point club earlier this season, had four points in the period.
Terrell scored two baskets early in the second period to offset two made free throws by Washington and then Keyonna Giles took over for Columbia as they would put up 22 unanswered points.
Giles hit for 14 points in the run including a 10-0 spurt by herself that included a three-pointer and a three-point play expanding the lead to 44-2 at the half.
Washington went scoreless in the third period as the Lady Eagles tallied 12 points led by Terrell with six and Kennedy with four to make it a 56-2 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs put up three points on a basket and hitting one of four free throws in the final 1:53 of the game.
Columbia (5-7) had opened the last quarter on an 11-0 run as five different people scored to make it 67-2.
Giles finished the night with 22 points and eight rebounds and was joined in double figures by Kamiya Kennedy with 17 and India Terrell with 16.
