Moving into Week 7 of the DeKalb County high school football schedule there are three big region games in DeKalb Stadiums on Friday.

All three games are key to playoff hopes for the 2020 season for Southwest DeKalb, Stephenson and Dunwoody. Meanwhile eight teams go on the road for their Week 7 matchups.

Southwest DeKalb (3-2, 3-1) are coming off a bye week facing undefeated Decatur (5-0, 4-0) in a Region 5-5A game with big implications on the four playoff spots heading into the final week of the regular season next week.

The Panthers only loss was to No. 8 ranked St. Pius earlier this season and they won 41-0 over Stone Mountain the week prior to their off week. Sophomore Armond Davis helps spark the Panther offense with 12 catches for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns and 103 yards rushing on just four carries and another TD. James Carswell 63 carries, 306 yards, 4 TDs) carries the load in the backfield while the two-headed quarterback system of Sadir Ryan and Sabian Campbell have combined for 759 yards passing and seven touchdowns through the air.

Senior defensive end Caleb Grant leads the defense with 33 tackles including four sacks and five for loss to go with an interception and four fumbles caused. Senior linebackers Darrionque Finley (37 tackles, 4 sacks) and Anthony Lovett (33 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 TFL) help anchor the front seven of the Panther defense.

Hallford Stadium has No. 8 ranked Stephenson (4-1, 3-1) hosting Hapeville Charter (2-3, 2-1) in a Region 6-4A game that is looming larger for the Jaguars after dropping a tough 23-0 decision to No. 1 ranked Marist last Friday night.

Terrance Guffie, Isaiah Screen and Quashaun Johnson lead the Jaguar rushing attack. Quarterback Sedrick Hill and receiver Rahim Diarrassouba have teamed up for 11 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns via the pass. Senior linebacker Tommy Smith (over 50 tackles, 1 sack) leads a Jaguar defense that has given up just 30 points in five games with 23 of those coming in last week’s loss.

Dunwoody (1-5, 1-3) needs a win against Discovery (2-6, 1-3) to keeps its playoff hopes alive as they face off at North DeKalb Stadium at 7:30 on Friday. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-15 win over Berkmar led by quarterback Davis Ledoyen who passed for 320 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another as he moved into sixth on the DeKalb All-Time Career Passing List with 4,781 yards. Senior linebacker Cevon Mitchell leads the Wildcat defense with 52 tackles including eight for a loss.

The other lone game in DeKalb this weekend has Chamblee (4-1) entertaining Lakeside (0-6) at Adams Stadium at 7:30 pm on Friday. Chamblee is coming off a 21-0 win over Liberty County while Lakeside dropped a 36-0 decision to Washington.

Lakeside leads the series 11-9, but the Bulldogs have won seven in a row including the last matchup in 2011 by a score of 55-21.
