Druid Hills brought home two (boys and girls) Top 10 finishes from the Class 4A State Cross Country Meets held on Friday and Saturday at Carrollton High School while Lakeside captured a spot in the Top 4 in Class 6A girls’ competition.
The Lady Red Devils climbed to a sixth place finish with four runners finishing in the Top 50 out of 169 competitors led by junior Sophie Shephard’s 16th place finish in a time of 21:53.06 on Friday. Katie Blount (23:13.76) was 32nd followed by sophomore Maya Neuhaus (23:38.38) at 42nd and senior Reese Rathur (24:11.87) coming across in 50th place.
Marist won the team competition scoring a team best 30 points followed by Jefferson 62, North Oconee 115, Central-Carroll 127 and Flowery Branch 129.
Druid Hills slipped into a ninth place finish in the boys’ race with 270 points led by two Top 25 finishes. Junior Sage Walker came in 11th overall in 17:42.83, the second best time on the course by a DeKalb boy, while senior Emmanuel Greene claimed a 23rd spot in the results with a time of 18:34.21.
Chestatee won the boys’ Class 4A team title with a team low 25 points to outdistance Marist (55).
The Class 6A races were also held on Friday with the Lakeside Lady Vikings putting together a big effort to get on the podium with a fourth place finish with 191 points. Pope won the state title with 74 points followed by Allatoona 134 and Cambridge with 144 ahead of Lakeside.
Lakeside had four runners finish in the Top 50 led by sophomore Haley Davis (21:38.76) who came across in 27th with freshman Maggie Welp (21:44.43) not far behind in 29th. Freshman Savannah Spires (22:07.21) was 42nd with sophomore Tristan Linscott (22:08.47) two spots behind in 44th.
Tucker finished 25th and Lakeside 26th in the boys’ team standings in the Class 6A state meet on Friday.
Junior Yordanos Ephram ran the fastest time for a DeKalb runner in the state competition taking 16th with a time of 17:39.44.
The Class 5A State Meets including the Chamblee boys’ and girls’ teams and the Class 7A Girls State Meet with Dunwoody in the field were run on Saturday at Carrollton.
Both Chamblee teams finished in the Top 15 in their races with St. Pius taking home the titles in both. The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 12th place finish led by freshman Zoe Garcia (21:02.24) who crossed in 25th. Junior Olivia Tabron (21:25.30) came home in 31st for Chamblee.
The Bulldogs were 14th in the boys’ race led by Diego DeAlba (18:03.45) who finished 58th.
Dunwoody freshman Claire Shelton followed up on her Region 7-7A title with a strong fourth place finish in the Class 7A Girls State Meet on Saturday.
Shelton ran a time of 19:46.1 as the Lady Wildcats finished 18th as a team.
