The Lakeside Lady Vikings were the only survivor of seven DeKalb County volleyball teams in the first round of the state playoffs.
Lakeside rolled to a 3-0 win over the Valdosta Lady Wildcats in their home match of the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs. The Lady Vikings jumped out to the 1-0 lead with a tight 25-20 win in the opening game of the match.
They followed up the first game win with a 25-16 win to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five match. Lakeside then closed out the match with a dominate 25-12 victory in the final game.
Lakeside (10-2) travels in the Sweet 16 round to take on Richmond Hill (19-10) which knocked off Heritage-Conyers 3-0 in another first round match which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 24.
In other home action Druid Hills jumped out to an early lead in the first game of their best-of-five Class 4A first round match against Cedartown before falling 3-0 to close out their season.

The Lady Red Devils got out to an 8-2 lead right out of the gate, but Cedartown closed the gap to 10-8 and then reeled off eight consecutive points to take a 16-10 advantage on the way to a 25-18 victory in the opening game.
Trailing 13-7 in the second game Druid Hills rallied behind the serving of Ellie Lynch to pull within 13-12. The match was back-and-forth, and Druid Hills was within 22-20 before Cedartown closed out the game winning three of the next four points to take a 2-0 with a 25-21 win.
Druid Hills was trailing 22-13 after a 6-2 run by Cedartown when the lead was trimmed to 22-16. The next point went to Cedartown as a tap over the net by the Lady Red Devils was just out on the side to make it 23-16. Cedar Town would close out the game with the next two points to advance.
